The Perryton Rangers and Gruver Lady Hounds were able to bring home team titles during the running of the Spearman Lynx Relays that were held on the campus of West Texas High in Stinnett on a blistering hot Thursday afternoon.
The Spearman track is currently under renovation, so West Texas High hosted the meet.
The Rangers were able to stack up 113 points to hold off Dalhart, which finished with 98 points. Canadian was third with 83 points.

Perryton won three individual championships and were very strong in the relay events. The Rangers 800-meter relay team of Ricky Canssino, Devin Medina, Alejandro Venegas and Aaron Trevizo, won the gold blazing to a time of 1:31.08. The sprint relay of Canssino, Medina, Luis Deleon and Trevizo earned silver (44.46) and the mile relay squad also earned points with a fourth place finish (3:36.16).
Individually, Perryton’s prolific long distance runner Jacob Erickson ran away from the field in the 3200-meter race thanks to a time of 9:44.55 to get a victory by over a full minute. In the 800-meter run, teammate Alex Grajeda won gold with a 2:06.09 and Ranger quarterback in the fall, Cooper Schilling, won the triple jump, popping off a jump of 41-feet-9 inches.
The Lady Hounds were able to win the girls division racking up a total of 129 points, which was 35 points better than Dalhart’s 94.
Highlighting the meet for Gruver were the relay teams. The 800-meter relay foursome of Payton Merkel, Quincy Schibler, Makenlei Vaquez and Reese Grotegut, clocked a gold medal time of 1:49.60. The sprint relay of Merkel, Schibler, Vasquez and Grotegut took silver (51.25) and the mile relay of Schibler, Merkel, Chloe McLaughlin and Grotegut also brought home silver (4:16.16).
Teammate Hallie McLain did her part in the pole vault by clearing 10-feet to win a gold of her own.
Lynx Relay notes
On top of the team titles, there were plenty of individuals putting on strong performances Thursday.
Dalhart had a big day with Kaetlin Sundvahl putting on quite the show. Sundvahl left Stinnett with three gold medals and a silver medal. Sundvahl started her day popping off a leap of 18-3 to win the long jump. She was then the second leg on the Lady Wolves gold medal winning sprint relay (49.62), and took gold in the 100-meter hurdle race with a time of 15.22. Sundvahl then ended her day with a silver in the 300-meter hurdles (46.28). Teammate Victoria Terrazas dominated the long distance events by winning the 3200-meter run (12:30.09) and the 1600-meter race (5:45.45).
West Texas High’s Scout Burris did her home track proud leaving with a handful of hardware. Burris won the high jump event (5-feet), and the triple jump with a 35-5 1/2. In the racing portion, Burris won the 300-meter race thanks to an impressive time of 46.26, and took silver in the 100-meter hurdles (15.73).
Sunray speedster Jayde Andujo left her mark Thursday. Andujo made it a clean sweep taking gold in the 100-meter dash (12.19) and the 200-meter race (25.80). She was also part of the Lady Bobcats mile relay gold medal winning team (4:12.77).
The Dalhart Wolves had quite a few individual winners on the boys side. Luis Deleon won the 100-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 10.81. Brett Alvar won gold in the 200-meter race (22.33), Cole James was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles (15.23). The sprint relay team of James, Hunter Trusler, Deleon and Alvar won with a 43.63, and Eli Garcia continued his dominance in the pole vault clearing 15-feet-6 inches.
Canadian’s Joseph Dominguez did a superb job getting two medals in the long distance events. Dominguez was able to win the 1600-meter run clocking a 4:48.19, and was a silver medal winner in the 3200-meter (10:45.93).
