GEORGETOWN – A storybook season saw a fairy tale ending in the most dramatic way possible for the Randall Lady Raider soccer team.

Randall not only made history becoming the first Amarillo-area soccer team to play for a state championship, but Lady Raiders cemented their legacy in Texas Panhandle sports lore by winning the UIL Class 4A Division II title in thrilling fashion beating Wimberly in a double overtime penalty kick shootout 2-2 (7-6) on Thursday afternoon on Birkelbach Field.

Previous to this season, the Lady Raiders, who finished with a 23-5-1 mark, made their only appearance at the UIL state soccer tournament in 2010 losing in the semifinals. Randall pushed past that long-awaited drought last week beating Aubrey 1-0. Randall was able to then push past that hurdle with the epic win over Wimberly and stamp their names in the all-time record books.
