High School Volleyball Roundup – Randall sweeps Hereford, Pampa downs Canyon

District 4-4A

Randall takes 4-4A outright lead

The Randall Lady Raiders have taken the outright District 4-4A lead in emphatic fashion by dismantling Hereford in what was supposed to be a competitive match for first place supremacy.

Instead, Randall earned a sweep and a dominating second set for a 25-23, 25-9, 29-27 victory. The Lady Raiders stay red hot moving to 6-0 in the district race and 25-8 overall. Hereford suffers its first district loss dropping to 5-1 and 26-7 overall.

Randall outside hitter Jordyn Gove continued her tear in 2022 knocking down 16 kills with 13 digs for a double-double. The junior also added two aces. Sidney Soria handed out 47 assists with 13 digs for a double-double and Brooke Henderson chipped in 14 kills and 13 digs for a double-double.

Hereford was led by Kyndal Blair’s 17 digs and three blocks.

Pampa downs Canyon 

Pampa went on the road and earned a hard fought 25-14, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, four-set win at Canyon on Tuesday night.

The win was a bit of a milestone for the Lady Harvesters who earned their first victory over the Lady Eagles since the 2007 season.

Pampa’s standout outside hitter Mikalie Floyd did everything in her power to get the Lady Harvesters a win. Floyd dominated on offense powering home 20 kills and played tremendous defense with 16 digs for a double-double. Maecie Hawthorne was equally impressive dishing out 30 assists and hitting the floor for 19 digs. Amanda Rios, Valeri Anguiano and Hallie Hawthorne stepped up in a superb defensive effort. Rios had 15 digs as Anguiano and Hawthorne each had 10.

Sydney Winfrey had 13 kills with four blocks for the Lady Eagles. Landri Jay played solid with 23 digs.

Pampa is now 3-3 in District 4-4A and 19-11 overall. Canyon falls to 7-26 overall and 2-4 in the league.

West Plains and Dumas cruise

West Plains snapped a two-game losing skid by sweeping Perryton, 25-6, 25-7, 25-11, at home on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolves improve to 4-2 in District 4-4A and 25-5 overall. Perryton is still searching for its first district win dropping to 0-6, and 11-15.

Jayli Franklin and Brooklyn Garcia each had nine kills for West Plains. Garcia also had five blocks. Teammate Zenaida Murrillo registered 18 assists.

Dumas kept pace with Pampa for fourth place by beating Borger, 25-20, 25-11, 25-23.

Desi Gutierrez and Brooklyn Cox each tallied 11 kills, and Karyme Castillo set them up with 29 assists. Emilee Bridges had five kills with four digs for Borger.

Dumas (21-14) is tied with Pampa at 3-3 in district. Borger falls to 15-13, 1-5.

District 3-5A

Amarillo High pummels Palo Duro

Amarillo High made quick work of Palo Duro thanks to a 25-7, 25-14, 25-15, sweep on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandies are 22-0 in their last 22 district games dating back to 2020. Amarillo High also stays perfect in District 3-5A at 2-0 and moves to 25-9 overall. Palo Duro is now 14-14 overall and 0-1 in district.

Sienna Cavalier led the way with 12 kills and seven digs. Senior leader Jo Moffitt registered 22 assists, knocked down five kills with four aces. Palo Duro’s Syvihanna Sutton and Precious Johnson each tallied four kills.

Tascosa knocks off Caprock 

Tascosa stayed in a first-place tie with Amarillo High getting a big sweep over Caprock, 25-16, 25-9, 25-18.

Kassidy Langeland played great defensively getting a game-high 27 digs. Meredith Sanning was electric with 43 assists and four aces and McKayla Carroll had a team-high 17 kills. Tascosa is 2-0 in District 3-5A and 19-14 overall. Caprock drops to 17-14, 0-2.

District 1-3A

River Road and Friona win

River Road bounced back from a tough district opening loss to Dalhart by handling Dimmitt on Tuesday night, 25-12, 25-7, 25-15.

The Lady Wildcats move to 12-14 overall and 1-1 in District 1-3A. Dimmitt drops to 3-23 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Reese DeHart and Rylee Kunkel each had 19 assists, and Heaven Hammett chipped in five aces to lead River Road.

Friona earned its first district win getting past Dalhart 11-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15 on the road on Tuesday.

Friona goes to 1-1 in District 1-3A and 14-11 overall. Dalhart falls to 11-15 overall and 1-1 in district.

Bushland steps out of district for a W

With an open district date, the No. 1-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons stepped up to play Class 5A Lubbock Monterey and earned a 25-14, 25-18, 25-14, sweep.

Bushland is now an impressive 28-4 overall. Abby Howell paced the team with 10 kills with a block. Madyson Eberly and Camryn Barton had nine kills. Barton also had three blocks and Kenzie Sims handed out 11 assists with four kills and two aces.

District 1-2A

West Texas High wins district showdown over Fritch 

West Texas High stayed perfect in District 1-2A nabbing a huge sweep of rival Sanford-Fritch, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, on the road Tuesday night.

The Lady Comanches are in first place in the district at 3-0 and move to 11-13 overall. Fritch falls to 1-1 in the district race and 12-13 overall.

WT High made it a complete team effort starting with defense. Zoey Smith paced the team with 27 digs, followed by Josslyn Gray’s 13 digs and Sage Lay with nine. McKenna Jennings dished out 37 assists with teammate Addison Lindley adding 32 assists and Kennedie Rushing made a team-high six kills.

Highland Park cruises 

The No. 15-ranked Highland Park Lady Hornets opened District 1-2A play in fine fashion beating Vega 25-9, 25-10, 25-10.

Krya Courtemanche was strong at the net with eye-opening 23 kills. Mercedes Harton made sure Courtemanche got her offense with 28 assists with 10 digs and five aces.

The Lady Hornets improve to 24-7 overall and 2-0 in district. Vega is now 7-17, 0-3.
