Fans that visited Whiteface Stadium in Hereford on Friday night for the season opening football game of 2020 not only enjoyed a 20-13 win against Borger, but noticed a major upgrade in the form of a brand new state of the art athletic field house.

In November of 2019 the City of Hereford passed a bond to build the new facility.

The field house brings a new look for both boys and girls athletics. It comes equipped with locker rooms for both boys and girls track and cross country teams, a baseball locker room, and locker rooms for varsity and sub-varsity football as well as a training room, multiple washing machines, dryers and a massive weight room area.

What ties it all together is the coaches offices. Both head football coach Don Delozier and his staff have a great view overseeing Whiteface Stadium.

“I think it’s a move in the right direction,” said DeLozier, who also serves as the boys athletic director. “We’re trying to move and accelerate ourselves into modern type things, and this is one of the first steps to get a new field house to operate out of.”

Brenda Kitten, the girls athletic director and former five-time state champion head volleyball coach of the Lady Whitefaces, shared her thoughts about the new field house, and what it means to the community.

“It brings about different sense of pride than we’ve been able to muster over the last few years,” Kitten said. “I think the community’s  going to be so happy, they’re going to be very satisfied with what they see.”

With the final touches of the new field house still being set in place, it won’t be long before Hereford athletics is headed into an entire new era.

Both Hereford volleyball and football seasons have begun in regulation with the new COVID-19 guidelines that were set on July 21st by the University Interscholastic League.
