Amarillo High’s Kinsler Hanson is the First United Bank Girls Athlete of the Week.

Kinsler Hanson, Amarillo High volleyball, Sr.

On the court: Hanson has made major strides from her junior to senior year and that’s shown in the first month of the season for an Amarillo High team that is 16-8 overall and unbeaten in District 3-5A. Last week alone was a massive one for Hanson as the senior outside hitter had a team-high 16 kills during a big road win at Lubbock Coronado last Tuesday. Then over the weekend, Hanson helped AHS to a 3-1 mark at the Colleyville Tournament going 3-1 and being named to the All-Tournament team by totaling 64 kills in four games with 78 digs.

On the season so far, Hanson has already piled up 220 kills to go with 210 digs and 23 aces.

Coach Haleigh Burns: “Kinsler had a great weekend. Overall, she has grown the most from last year and has worked on her leadership the most. She may come off undersized, but she doesn’t play like and she is extremely smart with her swings. She is scoring points when she swings and nothing is getting in her way. I’m excited to see how she keeps progressing this year and her teammates are trusting her.”

Hanson: “I think the season has started off well considering we lost a lot of starters from last year. We had two really good tournaments and one we struggled in but we’re getting better by the week. We have lot of grit and we’re pretty scrappy. We’re a team that has the fire to play together and wants to win. For me personally, I feel good about how I’m playing this year. I have a newfound confidence and I’m being more of a leader. Coach Burns has helped me in that role and this team is behind me.”
