Randall’s Jordyn Gove is the First United Bank Girls Athlete of the Week.

Jordyn Gove, Randall volleyball, Sr.

On the court: Gove showed exactly why she’s arguably the best player in the Texas Panhandle let alone all of Class 4A in helping the No. 1-ranked Randall Lady Raiders and defending UIL Class 4A state champions get back to the state volleyball tournament.

Gove provided the offense and played a pivotal role on defense in a sweep of Glen Rose, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, in a regional semifinal last Friday, then followed that with another tremendous outing in a hard fought four-set win against Stephenville, 22-25, 25-13, 25-15, 32-30, to punch Randall’s ticket back to state. Gove, who was named to the Region I-4A All-Tournament team, posted two straight double-doubles combining for 45 kills and 33 digs in the two wins.

On the season, the reigning 2022 State Tournament MVP, has racked up an astounding 1,863 kills for her illustrious career.

Coach Haleigh Burns: “Being back at state this is an incredible feeling. I’m so proud of my team. Our motivation this year has been why not us. Why not be the team that goes back and wins again. Why not work harder and why not be better teammates. The seniors picked up a great motto this year and I think we worked hard to live by it. Jordyn has been the definition of that. She is an incredible leader. She has put her entire heart into this season, and it has shown. Not every day was perfect or pretty but she showed up and gave her all to this program and we are benefitting because of that. I’m proud of her and all the work she has put in. I love Jordyn and I’m grateful to be her coach.”

Gove: “It’s great to be back with a group of girls that are going to do whatever it takes and have my back. I’ve improved a lot from last year and even from the beginning of this year, but I mainly focus on doing what is best for my team and delivering for them. Getting back to state is just another goal we have worked really hard for, and we are just focused on not settling and still going for more.”
