On the course: Behind the magnificent Bristow, the Canyon Lady Eagles won a second straight Region I-4A team cross country championship last week at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, totaling an impressive 25 points.

Bristow highlighted the meet, winning her third straight Region I-4A individual championship pacing the field with an impressive time of 10:55.9. Bristow will now head to Round Rock to look for a three-peat of her UIL Class 4A state championship during the state meet Saturday.

On the season, Bristow has been a part of two relay wins for the Canyon Lady Eagles and has six individual championships including a district title. Her personal-best time this senior season for a two-mile race is 10:37.

Head coach Ray Baca: “It’s always awesome to win a regional. The team is running well and that’s because we’ve had so many good workouts leading into the regional meet. We’ve been having even better practices and are now ready to see if we can go win another state title. Addyson is such a leader and a reason for these great practices. She works incredibly hard and she is the type of athlete that wanted to leave the program better than she found it. It’s hard to explain, but what I love about her, is how she changes before a meet. In warmups she is very mild mannered, but once the meet starts she becomes a different person and goes to another level.”

Bristow: “It was exciting to go win another regional championship as a team. We want to always run confident and we knew we had to work for it. Nothing is ever given to you, and we wanted to prove that. I feel I’ve gotten better this year as a leader. I remember when I was a freshman, and I had some great leaders. Now, I use what I learned that motivated me to the younger girls on this team. I just want to go down to Round Rock with this team and leave with a bang winning a state title.”
