District softball roundup: Amarillo High rolls over Tascosa, Pampa stays in first place of 4-4A

Amarillo High run-rules Tascosa

Amarillo High shook off a slow start with back-to-back explosive innings to run-rule rival Tascosa 18-3 on a very windy Friday afternoon at the Lady Sandies Softball Complex.

Tascosa led 3-0 heading into the top of the third before the AHS bats got hot. The Lady Sandies batted around the lineup plating nine runs in the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fourth to pull away for the convincing victory. Tatem Pendergraft sparked the rally with a three-run home run in the third putting AHS up 5-3. Tessia Guzman added a two-run double and Danea Lopez drove in three RBIs.

The Lady Sandies stay perfect in District 3-5A at 3-0 and move to 22-1 overall. Tascosa falls to 9-14, 1-3. In the other district game on Friday, Plainview pummeled Palo Duro, 32-7.

District 4-4A

Canyon rallies past Dumas with late run 

Canyon broke a late tie by getting the eventual-game winning run in the top of the seventh to earn a hard fought 4-3 win at Dumas in a key District 4-4A showdown on Friday evening.

With a back-and-forth game tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Lady Eagle left fielder Kamrin Gutierrez drove a double to left center plating Mikaila Gilliand with the eventual game-winning run putting Canyon up 4-3. Pitcher Kylie Knowles held the lead up in the top of the seventh striking out Cami Velasquez to end the game with two runners on base. Knowles threw a complete game allowing two earned runs with 14 total strikeouts in a gutsy effort. Katie Contreras had a two-run double to lead Dumas.

Canyon (9-14 overall) stays a game back of Pampa for the district lead at 6-2. After a 5-0 start to the league, the Demonettes (20-6) have now dropped three straight district games falling to 5-3.

Randall routs Borger 

The Randall Lady Raiders broke open a close game with an eight-run seventh inning to run away from Borger for a 14-1 victory on the road on Friday.

Randall stays tied with Canyon for second place in District 4-4A at 6-2 while improving to 18-10 overall. Borger drops to 12-14-1, 4-4.

Berkley Browder dominated in the circle by handcuffing Lady Bulldog hitters in seven innings of work. Browder allowed only four hits, one earned run, and stacked up and impressive 16 strikeouts. At the plate, Anberlin O’Dell was in the zone going a perfect 4-for-4 driving in four runs. Teammate Landri Holcomb had a double, a triple ending the day with two RBIs.

Pampa keeps district lead

The Pampa Lady Harvesters stayed all alone in first place of District 4-4A by getting an 11-3 victory over West Plains at home on Friday.

Pampa is now 7-1 as the second half of district begins and 15-3 overall. The Lady Wolves fall to 11-14-1, 2-6.

Kynleigh Kirby was stellar at the plate and in the circle for the Lady Harvesters. Kirby tossed a complete game without allowing an earned run with 10 K’s. Offensively, Kirby was equally impressive going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, totaling three RBIs.

Hereford knocks off Perryton

Hereford snapped a lengthy losing streak by getting a run-rule win over Perryton 30-3 on Friday.

Madi Valdez sparked the win with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double, a triple and a total of six RBIs. Teammate Kyla Perry chipped in with a three-run double. Hereford improves to 10-14 overall and 2-6 in district. Perryton falls to 5-13, 0-8.

District 1-3A

Bushland blanks Canadian 

It was another day at the office for the Bushland Lady Falcons as they went on the road and brought back a 17-0 win over Canadian on Friday afternoon.

Bushland stays all alone in first place of District 1-3A at 4-0 while moving to 19-6 overall. Canadian falls to 6-17, 2-2. 

Junior standout Brylee Adams threw four strong innings allowing only one hit with a total of eight strikeouts. Adams then blistered Canadian pitching with a 4-for-5 day at the dish that saw a homer, a pair of doubles that totaled a team-best five RBIs. Teammate Tatum Ainsworth was also stellar at the plate going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles driving in two RBIs.

River Road downs Dimmitt 

The River Road Lady Wildcats bounced back from a loss to Bushland earlier in the week by handling Dimmitt 16-5 on Saturday afternoon. 

The Lady Wildcats stayed a game back of Bushland in the District 1-3A standings at 3-1 while moving to 14-9 overall. Dimmitt drops to 7-6, 1-3. 

Ava Sharp delivered in a big way for River Road hitting two solo home runs with a double driving in three runs, as she also threw a complete game allowing four earned runs on eight hits with 14 strikeouts. Teammate Sidnee Kane had a pair of doubles with a homer to total three RBIs, and Angie Rivas went 3-for-5 including a double, triple tallying a game-high four RBIs.
