Palo Duro pulls away from Lubbock Coronado 

The Palo Duro Dons opened their District 3-5A schedule the way they wanted securing a hard fought 57-44 home victory against Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday night.

The Dons have raced out to a 13-1 start to the young season but are more importantly 1-0 in district play. The Mustangs are struggling at 3-7 overall and now 0-2 in the league.

Palo Duro opened the game hot going up 15-5 after the first quarter only to see Coronado cut that deficit 26-21 by halftime.

In the second half, the Dons heated up offensively outscoring the Mustangs 19-6 to take control of the contest taking a 45-32 lead and never looking back.

Cuda Clayton was behind that third quarter spark for Palo Duro dropping in 10 of his game-high 21 points in that frame. Teammate and sharpshooter Victor Juarez added 14 points with Aushaun Wilson tallying 11.

Amarillo High cans Caprock 

It was another night at the office for the Amarillo High as the Sandies stayed unbeaten in district gaining a 70-23 lopsided victory against Caprock on Tuesday night at the AHS Activity Center.

AHS was in complete control from the tip opening the game on a 20-2 run after the first quarter then extending that advantage 43-7 by halftime.

Will Williams had the hot hand knocking down four 3-pointers finishing the night with a game-high 16 points for the Sandies. Teammate Antwan Jefferson added 13 points of his own for a double-digit effort.

AHS improves to 2-0 in District 3-5A and 13-3 overall. The Longhorns drop to 4-12 on the year and 0-2 in district play.

In two other league games played Tuesday, Lubbock-Cooper held off Plainview 61-55. Cooper is now 9-5 overall and 2-0 in District 3-5A. The Bulldogs (7-5) fall to 0-2.

Lubbock Monterey had no issues getting by Lubbock High 63-36 on Tuesday. The win pushes the Plainsman’s record to 6-10 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Westerners (7-6) slip to 0-2 in district.
