Caprock beats Pampa for first win

After being held scoreless in the first half, Caprock came alive on the road in the second half Friday night to give Rowdy Freeman his first win as a head coach.

The Longhorns scored 19 unanswered points in the second half and got a strong defensive effort to beat Pampa 19-7 at Harvester Field. Both teams are now 1-2 on the season.

Quarterback Dallas Juarez came off the bench to spark Hereford in the second quarter, running 78 yards for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7. Later in the quarter, Juarez completed an 18-yard scoring pass to Jared Martinez to give the Longhorns the lead for good.

Juarez ran for a game-high 122 yards on 10 carries.

Defense, though, was the story for the Longhorns. They shut out Pampa over the final three quarters and gave up only 161 total yards and nine first downs.

Pampa’s Cooper Smith had a monster game on defense with 17 tackles.

Hereford holds on to beat Shallowater

Hereford remained unbeaten on the season, as the Whitefaces stopped a late two-point attempt which would have won the game for Shallowater for a thrilling 28-27 win on the road.

Quarterback Kalub Ramirez stayed hot for Hereford (3-0), as he completed 18-of-31 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The last touchdown was a 30-yard throw to Tell Bryant in the fourth quarter to give the Herd a 28-21 lead with 2:32 left in the game.

Bryant had seven catches for 121 yards and Brylyn Lopez ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

That wouldn’t have mattered if Hereford hadn’t made a stop when it most mattered. Shallowater (0-3) cut it to 28-27 on a 33-yard scoring pass from Eli Bowie to Jackson Stone with 20 seconds left, but the Mustangs opted to go for two and Hereford stuffed a run up the middle more than a yard short of the goal line.

Dumas scores first win over Perryton

Dumas bounced back from two lopsided losses to Lubbock schools to open the season, using a strong running game and a stifling defense to beat Perryton 26-7 to get into the win column at home at Demon Stadium.

The Demons (1-2) closed the game with 20 unanswered points after Perryton (0-3) took a 7-6 lead in the second quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run by Julian Cervantes. Dumas answered back as Blake Robinson hit Jacob Saenz with a 31-yard touchdown pass to give the Demons the lead for good.

Eduardo Hernandez was the story offensively for Dumas, as he ran for three touchdowns, including a 68-yarder to start the scoring. Hernandez had 194 yards on 27 carries as Dumas ran for 240 yards.

Robinson threw only five passes but completed them all. Defense, though, really stood out for the Demons, as they held Perryton to 160 yards and recorded three interceptions.

Borger routs Lamesa

Borger moved above .500 on the season by crushing Lamesa 42-12 at home.

Avery Adame had a huge game for the Bulldogs (2-1), running for 206 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 carries. Borger ran for 306 yards.

K.J. Jennings also ran for two touchdowns for Borger, which has already equaled last season’s win total. Lamesa fell to 0-3.
