On the field: No one is lighting up in the Texas Panhandle the past two weeks like Muleshoe quarterback Nathan Martens. After stacking eye-popping numbers against Canadian, Martens carried that momentum for the Mules during a 63-48 Homecoming win over Clyde.

Martens torched the Bulldog secondary finishing the game completing 25-of-33 passes for 425 yards with an incredible seven touchdowns. Over the past two weeks, Martens has piled up 881 yards with 11 touchdowns.

Through the first five games, the senior gunslinger is 95-for-131 (72.5 percent) with 1,558 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.

Coach Jason Richards: “Nathan has three years under his belt as a starter and you can see he is comfortable. What I love about him the most, is he’s taken his film study to the next level. He is cerebral and he always knows where to go with the ball. Nathan always has a pre-snap plan, and he’ll put in the work to be successful. Off the field, he’s the kind of kid you’d want your daughter to date. He is just an all-around great young man.”

Martens: “I think we are playing at high level and executing like we’re capable of. We still have work to do but we’re doing a good job of being on the same page and everyone is doing their job. I’ve grown a lot from last year. I spend countless hours preparing whether it’s in the weight room or watching film. I just want to be a leader for this team and do anything to win.”
