Luis Davila, Caprock soccer, Sr.
On the pitch: The Caprock Longhorns are off to a great start to the soccer season and district play. Last week alone, the Longhorns picked up two shutouts of Lubbock Coronado 5-0, and Plainview 3-0. Davila was outstanding in both victories for Caprock. Against Coronado, the forward had a goal with an assist, but it was the Plainview game where Davila left his mark, tallying a hat trick, scoring three goals in the win.
On the season, Davila has been a key cog offensively for the Longhorns, scoring 12 goals while adding two assists.
Coach Tim Ufford: “Luis has come a long so well this year. Last season he was the goalie for us. He did a great job in that spot, but this year we moved him into the forward position and his has adjusted greatly making that spot his own. What I really love, is Luis has great knowledge for the game and does an awesome job of getting everyone involved. He’s an easy going guy, and makes the team better.”
Davila: “I feel like the team is playing great so far this year. There has been a lot of growth from all of us as individuals. That has given us a chance to get close, and play with great chemistry. That’s an awesome thing for us to have. We have a strong community and strong relationships all the way around. I think going from a goalie to a forward has gone well so far. I had switched from goalie to forward during club and then coach (Ufford) gave me the opportunity. I feel like I’ve improved because of that. I always bring my teammates up whenever I can and motivate the best I can.”
