Perkins leads Wildorado past Springlake-Earth

Behind a monster effort from Jami Perkins, the Wildorado Lady Mustangs were able to take down Springlake-Earth 55-40 in a Class 1A bi-district matchup on Tuesday night at Bushland High School.

Perkins, a sophomore, was absolutely on fire from the start of the game to the end tallying a game-high 33 points that included a 18-point first half effort. Perkins was even clutch down the stretch of the fourth quarter adding another seven points with five made free-throws. Teammate and sister Jovi Perkins added 12 points with eight of those coming in the final frame.

Wildorado (22-7) moves on to the area round for a matchup with Silverton (22-5) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Canyon High School. Springlake-Earth ends its season at 10-15.

Class 5A

Tascosa beats up Abilene Wylie

The Tascosa Lady Rebels used a huge second half to ease past Abilene Wylie 63-35 during a Class 5A bi-district clash at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University on Tuesday.

The Lady Rebels are now 24-6 overall and will advance to the area round for a second year in a row where they now battle El Paso Hanks (23-11) at a time and place to be determined.

Tascosa jumped out to an 18-2 lead only to see the Lady Bulldogs cut that deficit to 33-24 by halftime. The Lady Rebels gained the momentum in the third quarter going on a 9-3 run, then took over the rest of the way.

Aniyah Brackens paced Tascosa with a team-high 19 points followed by teammate Avery Carter’s 15.

In two other Class 5A bi-district games, District 4-5A champion Lubbock Monterey ended Caprock’s season with a 72-17 victory and Lubbock-Cooper defeated Plainview 87-43.

Class 3A

Canadian claws past Abernathy

A big second half was the difference in getting the Canadian Lady Cats to a huge 58-42 win against Abernathy during a Class 3A bi-district showdown at the Caprock Activity Center on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cats and Lady Antelopes battled back-and-forth in the first half with Abernathy leading 25-22 at the midway point. Canadian head coach Aaron Marks made an adjustment in the second half with his defense that allowed the Lady Cats to smother Abernathy star Mecailin Marshall, who did finish with 23 points.

Thanks to that Canadian stellar defense, that allowed the offense to go to work behind Kylie Cavalier and Cazzlie Waite in the second half. Waite scored 13 of her 18 points in the third quarter as the Lady Cats outscored Abernathy 22-9 in that third frame. Cavalier was also on-point for the contest scoring a game-high 25 points.

Canadian (22-11) advances to the area round to take on Littlefield (23-6) at 6 p.m. on Friday at Canyon High School.

Class 2A

Panhandle cruises by Hale Center

Panhandle didn’t seem to mind making a rare playoff road trip on Tuesday night.

The Ettes made the long trip down I-27 and took care of Hale Center in the Lady Owls on own gym 62-20 during a Class 2A bi-district clash to gain the gold ball.

Panhandle took a commanding 18-6 first quarter lead and quickly extended it by putting the game away at halftime up 32-8.

Ann Garrison poured in a game-high 13 for the Ettes with Riley Segura chipping in 12 and Avery Cathey adding 10.

Panhandle (27-6) now gets a date with District 2-2A co-champion Wellington (25-6) in a very good area round matchup at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Caprock Activity Center.
