
DUMAS – As the month of May comes to a close, 7-on-7 football is starting to heat up.
On Saturday, Dumas held its annual state qualifier with 16 teams looking for one spot in College Station. While Dumas and Perryton had impressive showings, it was Lubbock Christian going a perfect 4-0 to capture that qualifying spot and punch a ticket to the state tournament.

The Eagles went a perfect 4-0 on Saturday beating Perryton 20-14, Randall, 27-14, then Canyon 20-14 and took down Dumas in the championship game 26-20 to advance. LCHS will be in the Division II bracket at the state tournament which set for June 25-26 at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.

The Demons are still looking for a chance at the state tournament after falling short. Despite dropping the championship game, Dumas did have a strong morning. Led by senior-to-be and high profile quarterback Colton Mills, the Demons did pick up victories against Hereford, 40-19, followed by a 35-21 win over Shallowater and took down their own JV team 27-0.

The Perryton Rangers were another team that had a superb performance Saturday. The Rangers went 2-1 on the morning in Dumas. Paced by prolific soon-to-be four-year starting quarterback Cooper Schilling, Perryton earned wins against Canyon, 25-14, and Randall, 24-0, before falling to Lubbock Christian 20-14.
