H.S. Golf roundup: Randall boys edge Tascosa, AHS girls win 3-5A; Canyon sweeps 4-4A

The Randall boys golf team edged out Tascosa by two strokes to win the District 3-5A championship for a second consecutive year at the Ross Rogers Golf Complex on Thursday.

The Raiders shot a two-day team score of 317-306— 623, to hold off the Rebels 315-310— 625. Both Randall and Tascosa qualify for the Region I-5A Golf Tournament set for the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock on April 18-19.

Randall standout Wyatt Provence won the individual district championship for a second straight season. The Raiders junior fired a 74 on a blustery Wednesday on the WildHorse course, then followed that with another 74 on the Mustang layout Thursday for a total of 148. Tascosa’s Ethan Evans placed second overall shooting a 75-74— 149.

On the girls side, Amarillo High won the District 3-5A title on Monday and Tuesday at the Palo Duro Creek Golf Course and Ross Rogers Golf Complex.

The Lady Sandies shot a 327 in round one at Palo Duro Creek, followed by a 353 on extremely windy conditions during Tuesday’s second round at Ross Rogers WildHorse course for a two-day total of 680. Randall finished second with a 357-361— 718. Both the Lady Sandies and Lady Raiders have qualified for the Region I-5A Tournament at the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock on April 20-21.

AHS junior Charlee Thacker was the individual district champion. Thacker shot 75 on Monday, and an 81 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 156. Teammate Lauren Kelly was second place thanks to an 80-83— 163.

District 4-4A

The Canyon boys and girls golf teams made it a clean sweep during its District 4-4A Golf Tournaments.

The Canyon boys shot back-to-back impressive rounds of 300-298— 598 at the Pheasant Trails Golf Course in Dumas. Hereford was the runner-up with a two-day total of 318-318— 636.

After shooting a 78 in his first round, Canyon’s Quinn Haynes caught fire in Thursday’s final 18-holes, scoring a 4-under par, 68, to win the individual district championship with a 78-68— 146. Xavier Sauceda of Hereford was second posting 73-74— 147.

The Eagles and Whitefaces advance to the Region I-4A Golf Tournament set for April 18-19 at the Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.

The Lady Eagles dominated the District 4-4A Tournament. Canyon posted a two-day total of 330-322— 652, which was 111 strokes better than second place Dumas (385-378— 763).

Junior Shaylin Schulte took gold as the district individual champion. During last Thursday’s opening round at the Ross Rogers WildHorse course, Schulte shot an opening 77. Schulte followed that up at Pheasant Trails Golf Course in Dumas with a 74 on Monday to win the event with a two-day score of 151. Teammate Grace Sutton finished right behind Schulte as the second medalist posting a 79-74— 153.

Canyon and Dumas are headed to the Region I-4A Tournament at the Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock set for April 21-22.
