Gruver Greyhounds, Panhandle Ettes win 1-2A/ 2-2A Area Track and Field championships; Abernathy makes it a sweep of 3-2A/ 4-2A title

1-2A/ 2-2A Track and Field meet

There were remarkable performances that stood about the others during the 1-2A/ 2-2A Area Track and Field meet in Panhandle on a breezy Friday afternoon.

In the midst of those achievements, the Gruver Greyhounds and Panhandle Ettes both pulled away to win team championships.

The Greyhounds, who are having an incredible season in boys athletics, finished the meet with 126 points to edge district rival Sunray, which finished second with 98 points.

Sophomore standout Mason Lankford spotlighted the meet for Gruver qualifying for regional in five events. Lankford set the tone in the morning field event session when he won his first of three gold medals by clearing a new personal-best 6-feet-7 inches in the high jump. Lankford immediately went from the high jump to the long jump pit and hit the board for a silver medal leap of 20-11.
