High School volleyball district roundup – Dumas holds off Hereford in thriller, Vega opens district with a win, Shallowater knocks off Idalou

It was an action packed Friday and Saturday of district volleyball across Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out this recap that saw Dumas edge Hereford in a five-set thriller. Shallowater was able to stay unbeaten in district beating Idalou and Vega opened district with a victory at West Texas High.

District 4-4A

In a match where it came down to the final two points, the Dumas Demonettes were able to hold off Hereford and defend home court in a thrilling five-set match getting the win, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 16-14, on Saturday in a key District 4-4A clash.

The win puts the Demonettes (18-16 overall) two games up on both Hereford (17-17) and Pampa (17-11) for the fourth and final playoff spot at 5-3 in the league. The Lady Whitefaces and Lady Harvesters both sit at 3-5.

Sophie Clements was flat out incredible for Dumas through the entire match Saturday doing her job in all phases. Clements quarterbacked the offense passing out 29 assists, led the front row attacking the net for 15 kills and had 16 digs for a triple-double. If that wasn’t enough, Clements also served extremely well with five aces. Brooklyn Rose complimented Clements with 14 kills and Gabi Holt led the team with 26 digs.

Hereford’s Lilly Madrigal carried on her magnificent season despite the loss nabbing a double-double. Madrigal finished the match with 15 assists and 10 digs. Sam Grajeda led the offensive effort with 11 kills.
