THURSDAY’S GAMES
Class 5A
Odessa Permian (2-1) at Tascosa (2-1), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Mojo arrives in Amarillo coming off a monster W over a very good Abilene High team. The Rebs looked so-so in the loss at Lubbock Cooper. Not sure Tascosa’s offensive prowess at this time is enough to beat Permian. … Permian 21, Tascosa 14.
Class 4A
Caprock (1-2) at Canyon (2-1), 7 p.m., Happy State Bank Stadium
A couple of former district rivals looking to develop momentum for district play clash at Happy State Bank Stadium. Caprock found some offense in beating Pampa on the road last week to get in the win column and Canyon took a step back offensively in a loss to Palo Duro. Both teams are still looking to establish a positive identity on offense after performing respectably defensively last week. Canyon has been a little more consistent in that regard, which along with home field gives the Eagles the edge. … Canyon 28, Caprock 10.

West Texas High (3-0) at Tulia (2-1), 7 p.m.
Both teams seem to be much improved from a year ago, but the question will be is do the Hornets have what it takes to stay on the field with the Comanches. … WT High 42, Tulia 21.

Booker (2-1) vs. Silverton (0-3), Tigers Stadium, Groom
The Kiowas offense finally found it’s footing last week and they will look to extend that momentum on the same field but against a different opponent. … Booker 68, Silverton 18.
McLean (0-3) vs. Springlake-Earth (1-2), 7 p.m., Mustang Stadium, Claude
This is a fascinating matchup. The Tigers are coming off a heartbreaking loss last week at home via the rare field goal. They found a passing attack last week which gives Springlake-Earth something to think about but the Wolverines finally grabbed a win last week and may have too much firepower to defend. … Springlake-Earth 42, McLean 30.
Wilson (0-3) at Anton (0-3), 7 p.m.
One of these teams walks away with their first victory of the season. Both squads have struggled early but the Bulldogs are the better team. … Anton 44, Wilson 20.
Nazareth (1-2) at Valley (0-3), 7:30 p.m.
Likely the game of the week in this area as Valley is happy to welcome the Swifts into town. That’s not a shot at Nazareth but after having Gordon and Jayton in town in back-to-back weeks this will feel like a fair matchup. Both squads match up well. The key may be the Patriots ability to handle Lincoln Pohlmeier in the passing game. … Nazareth 38, Valley 36.
Kress (3-0) at Paducah (3-0), 7:30 p.m.
There is a common opponent between these two in Wellman-Union. The Kangaroos beat the Wildcats by 22 while the Dragons won last week by 19. That means, on paper, this one should be a close contest but Darren Mackey is the X factor for Paducah. … Paducah 72, Kress 54.

Lubbock Cooper (2-1) at Frenship (1-2), 7 p.m., Peoples Bank Stadium, Wolfforth
Rivalry deluxe between these two perched on the outskirts of the Lubbock ISD. If Cooper can beat Tascosa, it can beat Frenship. … Cooper 20, Frenship 14.

Palo Duro (2-1) vs. Amarillo High (3-0), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
This is meeting 66 of this historic Amarillo ISD rivalry that first played out in 1955. And, this one has intrigue. Last year PD ended a 17-game losing streak to AHS with a 20-14 victory. This PD team is better than last year when it comes to maturity, discipline and knowing exactly what they want to do scheme wise. AHS on the other hand can flat out crank out points averaging 42.3 points per game against a trio of 6A schools. The Sandies gained state-wide respect this week breaking into the No. 10 slot in Dave Campbell’s 5A-DI rankings. … Amarillo High 38, Palo Duro 28.
Randall (3-0) at Wichita Falls Legacy (1-2), 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Wichita Falls
Randall had a tussle last week with Perryton to stay undefeated but got the job done. The Raiders have learned how to win under third-year Coach Dan Sherwood owning a 13-1 record in their last 14 regular season games. Make that 14-1. … Randall 31, Legacy 14.

Bushland (1-2) at West Plains (3-0), 7 p.m., Happy State Bank Stadium
Another nondistrict meeting at Happy State Bank between two metros, although both with potent offenses. West Plains is rolling along as expected after a 63-34 win over Lubbock Estacado, although the Wolves showed a vulnerable defense. Bushland’s had a couple of tough losses against quality opponents Canadian and Midland Christian, so the Falcons have something to prove. As prodigiously as the West Plains program has started, the Wolves are 0-3 against Bushland. That’s going to change. … West Plains 38, Bushland 20.
Pampa (0-3) at Borger (0-3), 7 p.m.
One of the most storied and traditionally contentious rivalries in the Texas Panhandle has lost a bit of its luster as these winless teams are struggling. The difference is, Pampa has been competitive in all three losses, as the Harvesters have lost by a combined 13 points. Meanwhile, Borger’s three losses have been by an average score of 47-6. This one will be closer than that. … Pampa 41, Borger 22.
Hereford (1-2) at Perryton (1-2), 7 p.m.
The records of these teams are probably a bit misleading, as they’ve had tough schedules and in Hereford’s case, close games which could have gone either way. This promises to be an entertaining offensive game as a showdown between two top quarterbacks, Hereford’s Kalub Ramirez and Perryton’s Cooper Schilling. Hereford has the edge as far as depth, so look for the Whitefaces to pull off a hard-fought road win over the Rangers. … Hereford 34, Perryton 24.
Plainview (2-1) at Dumas (2-1), 7 p.m.
This is yet another promising matchup between two stellar quarterbacks, Colton Mills of Dumas and Plainview’s Seth Mayberry, so expect a lot of points here. The difference will be the supporting casts, as Dumas has a better defense and Mills more weapons he can use. Dumas also has some motivation after losing a tough one at Canadian, so that and home field advantage will be more than enough to carry the Demons to a comfortable victory. … Dumas 41, Plainview 26.
Seminole (2-1) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (3-0), 7 p.m.
One of the more intriguing matchups occurs between second-year program Liberty just south of Lubbock and Seminole, in another game which should test scoreboard operators. Liberty has coasted through three games but Seminole should provide a stiff test as the Indians have been rolling since a season-opening loss at West Plains. The Patriots are home, so this should provide the slightest of advantages. … Liberty 28, Seminole 27.
Lubbock Estacado (1-2) at Sweetwater (1-2), 7 p.m.
Records are again a big misleading, as Estacado hung up 34 in a loss to West Plains and Class 3A Sweetwater has played bigger schools the past two weeks. Estacado running back James Boseman and wide receiver Cedric Ross are dangerous weapons, and the ability of the Matadors to run and pass effectively will be the difference in determining the victor in what should be an entertaining game. … Estacado 35, Sweetwater 20.
