District 4-4A
Mother nature played a big factor during Friday’s district baseball play. Some games were postponed and some games were played.
West Plains opened the second half of district play in winning style at home, as the Wolves scored their second run-rule win of the week by routing Hereford 10-0 in six innings and staying on top of the district.
The Wolves (17-5-1, 7-1) got all the offense they needed with a run in the bottom of the first, when Jesse Flores walked and scored on a wild pitch. West Plains got more separation with five runs in the fourth, then with two outs in the sixth ended the game early on RBI singles by Alakai Carrillo and Elijah Vasquez.

Carrillo and Kane White-Tinsley both had two hits and drove in two runs for West Plains, while Noah Vasquez went six innings on the mound, giving up four hits and striking out seven.
Canyon kept up with Canyon ISD rival West Plains, as the Eagles avenged their district opening loss by beating Perryton 4-1 at home for their seventh straight district win to stay tied for the district lead.
Zabien Urteaga gave up a run in the first inning for Canyon (19-3, 7-1) but that was all he gave up in six innings. Urteaga scattered seven hits.
Canyon took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Beau Boehning singled and scored on an error. The Eagles got insurance in the sixth on Kaz Abernathy’s two-run single.
Pampa erased a six-run deficit to rally back for a thrilling 7-6 win against rival Borger on the road Friday afternoon. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Harvesters, who are now 4-4 in District 4-4A and 11-8-1 overall.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. Pampa chipped away scoring a run cutting that lead to 6-4 until the top of the sixth. That’s when the rally started. In that top of the sixth, the Judsen Hancock hit a two-run game tying homer and then Jarren Hill delivered a solo shot giving the Harvesters a 7-6 advantage to complete the comeback. Hancock was 3-for-4 on top of his two-run bomb and Max Neff drove in two runs.
Randall was leading Dumas 10-0 before the game was postponed due to the heavy rain in the bottom of the third inning. The contest will resume Monday afternoon.
District 3-5A
The Amarillo High Sandies just keep rolling along in district play and showed no signs of slowing down at Sandie Field on Friday.
After falling behind Lubbock High by a run in the second inning, Amarillo High closed the game with nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to rout the Westerners 10-2 and stay firmly atop the district standings. Amarillo High is now 16-7-1 and 9-1 in district, 2 ½ games ahead of second place Lubbock Coronado.
Lubbock (14-7-1, 5-3) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second. In the fifth, though, the Sandies seized momentum with five runs.
Austin Sluder’s RBI single tied the game 2-2 and an error gave Amarillo High a 3-2 lead. With the bases loaded, Clayton Norrell tripled to center to bring everyone home and stretch the lead to 6-2.
In the fifth, Gabe Ortiz got things going for the Sandies with a two-run single.
Tate Blackwell was solid on the mound for Amarillo High. He pitched six innings, scattering five hits and giving up only one earned run.
Tascosa missed out on a chance to tie for second place in the district by losing a tough pitchers’ duel at Lubbock Monterey, 2-1.
Monterey broke through for a run off Tascosa starter Cais Fain in the bottom of the third, but that was all the Plainsmen managed off Fain. He went six innings and gave up five hits.
The Rebels tied it in the top of the fifth when Jay Adams stole home. But that was all the offense for Tascosa (12-6, 5-3), which had only three hits.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jaxon Armstrong relieved Fain and gave up a one out walk to Jaivyth Cruz. After walking two more batters, Armstrong was pulled for Zayden Brewer, who walked Logan Casarez to force home Cruz with the winning run.
The Palo Duro Dons also suffered a heartbreaking loss in their best chance so far this season to get their first district win, as Plainview scored four runs in the top of the ninth to beat Palo Duro 6-2.
Palo Duro (7-13, 0-8) took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Marcos Ruiz Ramirez. Plainview tied it in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Jonas Castanedas.
That’s the way it stayed until the ninth, when with the bases loaded and one out, Plainview’s Ian Garza singled to left, and an error helped three runs come home.
Things continued to stay rough for Caprock, as the Longhorns lost to Lubbock-Cooper by the 10-run mercy rule for the second time this week, 15-0 in five innings.
Caprock (0-22, 0-10) was no-hit as three batters reached base via an error and two walks. Cooper took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second and put it away with eight in the third.
District 1-3A
Fresh off an upset of Bushland on Tuesday, Dalhart completed a strong week by holding off Tulia 10-9 on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Wolves (7-8) are just a game back of the Falcons in the district race at 4-2. Tulia (13-5-1) falls to 3-4.
Caden Bird was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Teammate Kevin Rios added to Dalhart’s scoring by plating two runs of his own on a 2-for-3 day at the dish and Kyler Read went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Childress and River Road was postponed to Monday due to an unplayable field because of the rain. The game is now scheduled for Monday in Childress.
District 1-2A
After holding off West Texas High on Tuesday, Sunray had a much smoother time Friday getting a two-game sweep of the Comanches in a 13-1 run-rule victory.
The Bobcats did what they needed to do at the plate and on the mound. Luke Grajeda provided the pop going 2-for-4 including a triple and finished the game with three RBIs. Valen Swinford was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs of his own. On the hill, Mason Gray was in control throwing a complete game over five innings allowing only two hits with five strikeouts.
Sunray improves 8-1 overall and 2-0 in District 1-2A.
Booker’s Chase Nelson was dealing throwing the rare perfect game during the Kiowas 14-0 shutout against Boys Ranch on Friday.
Nelson (4-1) was on point the entire way facing only 15 batters while sitting 10 down on strikeouts. Only five balls were put into play and Nelson fielded three of those for outs. Booker is now 8-2 overall and 4-0 in district.
In the other league clash, Follett was able to dominate White Deer getting a 20-4 victory Thursday afternoon.
District 2-2A
Due to the rainy weather, Clarendon’s home game with Quanah was pushed to Monday afternoon. Wellington’s district game with home game with Memphis was also rescheduled to a later date.
