Booker boys, Miami girls claim team titles
Running in much better weather Tuesday, the Booker Kiowas and Miami Lady Warriors were able to take advantage winning team titles at Miami High School.
The Kiowas ran up 166 points to win the team district title while the Lady Warriors registered 128 points for the 1-1A championship.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]Booker’s Julian Barton and Adrian Rosales were the stars of the meet on the boys side. There wasn’t one athlete that could stay with Rosales in the long-distance event as Rosales made it a clean sweep. Rosales won the 3200-meter run clocking a 10:11.43. He followed that with an 800-meter victory (2:07.28) and closed out the day pacing the 1600-meter race with a 4:40. Barton is getting back to form after nursing an injury. Barton qualified for the area meet by winning the 400-meter (23.15) and the 400-meter (56.06). The Booker 800-meter relay added to the victory getting gold with a 1:39.09 and the mile relay team won thanks to a 3:49.50.
The Miami Lady Warriors were able to win the team title thanks to sweeping the relay events. The sprint relay ran a time of 56.72, the 800-meter relay had a 2:10.58 and the mile relay team won with a 5:23.12.
But it was Kelton’s McKinzi McManus that had the crowd in the palm of her hand on this day. McManus was flat out incredible getting on the gold medal stand five separate times. In the morning, McManus swept the jumping events clearing 5-0 for the high jump gold, leaped a 33-9 1/2 for the triple jump title and 15-5 for the long jump win. In the running portion, McManus blazed a time of 12.61 for the win in the 100-meter dash and followed that with a 200-meter gold medal win thanks to a 27.66.
The District 1-1A/ 2-1A Area track and field meet is set for Wednesday in White Deer.
District 2-1A
White Deer sweeps district titles
White Deer had no problems defending its home track getting a sweep during the District 2-1A track and field meet Tuesday at White Deer High School.
The Bucks were impressive the entire day building 194 points with the Does putting together 177 points.
Making quite the medal haul was Faith Jackson on the girls side for White Deer. Jackson not only advanced to area in five events but brought home five gold medals. Jackson won the high jump clearing 4-7, then won the long jump getting 15-2. She won the sprints with a 12.90 in the 100-meter dash and a 28.40 in the 200-meter run. Jackson was then on the 800-relay team that clocked a winning time of 1:54.
Claude’s Shealee Brannon was another individual making noise. Brannon won two golds clocking a 13:00.62 to win the 3200-meter race and getting to the gold medal stand in the 1600-meter (5:45.49).
Cayden Mynear helped carry the Bucks to a win with a big gold medal outing. Mynear has had an outstanding season and that continued by getting gold in the 800-meter with a time of 2:02.91. Mynear was able to gain a victory in the 1600-meter race (4:53.25) and was on the mile relay team that won with a 4:37.37.
The District 1-1A/ 2-1A Area track and field meet is set for Wednesday in White Deer.
District 3-1A
Boys Ranch has historic day
It was a banner day for Boys Ranch during the District 3-1A track and field meet in Vega on Wednesday. The Lady Riders won the team title for the first time in school history with 181 points while the Roughriders followed with a team title scoring 180.50 points.
The twin sister duo of Hayley and Jaina Sprock were maginifienct for Boys Ranch. Speck won four gold medals in the 400-meter run (1:06.01), the high jump (4-10) and was a part of the sprint relay (54.69) and the mile relay (4:39.34). Jaina won three gold medals starting in the discus (80-2), then the 800-meter relay (2:00.78) and the mile relay with her sister (4:39.34).
Michael Holman won two golds in the boys events. Holman was the gold medal winner in the 800-meter race (2:09.57) and the 1600-meter run (5:10.87).
The District 3-1A/ 4-1A Area track and field meet is set for Thursday in Vega.
District 4-1A
Nazareth girls, Happy boys claim district crowns
The Nazareth Swiftettes and Happy Cowboys did just enough to claim District 4-1A crowns Wednesday in Vega.
Nazareth barely survived the Happy Cowgirls by one point. The Swiftettes finished with 126 points to Happy’s 125. The Cowboys on the other hand won with 184 points.
The Nazareth relays were the difference. The Swiftettes were gold in the 800-meter relay (1:57.47), gold in the mile relay (4:29.87) and silver in the sprint relay (54.28). Silverton’s Maddie Francis was the standout individually. Francis won four golds starting with the high jump at 4-10. Francis won the long jump at 15-8 1/2 and swept the hurdle races clocking a 15.31 in the 100-meter hurdles then a 46.54 in the 300-meter hurdles.
Kole Gibson led the Happy Cowboys with four golds. Gibson swept the hurdles racing to a 16.09 in the 110-hurdles, then a 43.70 in the 300-meter. Gibson was on the Cowboys gold medal mile relay team (3:48.24) and won the triple jump 39-7. Teammate Brance Ferguson added a pair of gold medals. Ferguson ran away from the field in the 1600-meter run (5:09.74) and the 3200-meter race (10:56.57).
The District 3-1A/ 4-1A Area track and field meet is set for Thursday in Vega.
In District 8-1A, the Valley Lady Patriots placed second. Senior multi-sport star Trinity Schlueter was an MVP performer during the district race. Schlueter won three gold medals starting in the 100-meter dash (12.88), then the 400-meter run (1:03.18) and closed out with gold in the 200-meter (27.58).
