As expected, Canyon was able to come away with a strong team performance on both sides and win the team championships with a sweep during the District 4-4A track and field meet at Bulldogs Stadium in Borger on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Lady Eagles cruised with 177.50 points that was 32 points better than second place Randall’s 135. The Eagles was a little closer. While the Canyon boys matched the Lady Eagles with 177 points, Randall came in right behind in second with 161.

As to no surprise whatsoever, junior standout Addyson Bristow left her mark for Canyon on the district meet. Bristow racked up three gold medals with ease taking the medal stand in the 3200-meter run with a 10:38.28, the 800-meter race running away from the field with a 2:09.88 and then ended her day in the 1600-meter run where she paced a 4:58.57.
Teammate Brooklyn Kinsey did her part gaining Canyon big points. Kinsey won two golds on the day and a silver. The senior multi-sport athlete won the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.62 and was second with silver in the 300-meter hurdles 45.02. Kinsey was also a part of a mile relay team that won with a 4:03.62.
Randall’s Tenera Gray carried on her fantastic year advancing to the area meet in five events. Gray took home four gold medals and a silver between Wednesday and Thursday. In the field events, Gray leaped to a 38-1 in the triple jump for a gold and cleared 5-1 in the high jump for another trip to the gold medal stand and was silver in the long jump (17-11 1/2). In the running events, Gray won the 300-meter hurdles thanks to a time of 43.94 and was a part of the Lady Raiders 800-meter relay squad that won the race with a 1:45.75.
Gray wasn’t the only one stealing the show. Jackelyn Hernandez of West Plains was able to take home some hardware advancing out in five events. Hernandez won gold medals in the long jump popping off an 18-1 1/2 and the 200-meter dash sprinting to a 25.60. She added two silvers in the 800-meter relay (1:45.95) and the mile relay (4:05.58) and took bronze in the triple jump (36-0 1/2).
The long-distance duo of Lathan Lewter and Ryan Fernandez was a big reason for the Canyon Eagles district victory.
Coming off a historic Texas Relays, Lewter carried that momentum into the district meet by winning the 3200-meter race with a 9:42.24 and got a silver in the 1600-meter race (4:34.29). Teammate Fernandez did the opposite. Fernandez won the 1600-meter race with a 4:33.85 and was silver in the 3200-meter run (9:42.27).
Ethan Labue made it a clean sweep of the distance events leading Canyon in the 800-meter run (2:04.69) for a gold medal. Emmit Stewart also impressed sprinting to a gold medal win in the 400-meter with a 49.40 and helped the mile relay team to a silver with a 3:22.32.
Dumas’ Reece Waddell had a great meet qualifying in four events. Waddell won the gold in the 300-meter hurdles thanks to a 39.31 and was on the mile relay team that won with a superb time of 3:22.20. He was also silver in the 110-meter hurdles (14.88) and silver in the high jump clearing 6-2.
Randall’s Collin Miller advanced thanks to a gold in the sprint relay (42.02) and another gold in the long jump popping off a 23-2 1/2.
