Bushland soars to open league play
The Bushland Lady Falcons picked up where they left off last year by dominating opponents to open district this past week.
Bushland beat up Canadian and Childress by a combined 24-4 to nab a pair of wins and start out District 1-3A unbeaten. The Lady Falcons started the district schedule handling Canadian with a 13-3 run-rule then followed that effort up with an 11-1 run-rule win against Childress at home Friday.
The Lady Falcons (10-12 overall) are now 2-0 in district.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]In the win against Canadian, Charley Spinks feasted on Lady Cat pitching going a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish and slammed two home runs while adding a triple to total five RBIs. Addison Appier added two homers of her own and a double to also end the victory with five runs driven in.
In the Childress win, Farryn McKown did a little bit of everything. McKown hit a pair of homers and totaled seven RBIs. The lefty also worked five strong innings in the circle going all five innings scattering three hits with three strikeouts. Spinks added a two-run homer giving her three long balls for the week.
District 1-3A quick hits
Childress (9-8) did pick up a district opening victory by blanking Dalhart 10-0 on Monday. The Lady Bobcats are 1-1 in district action. Against the Lady Wolves, Ansley Parr handcuffed Dalhart hitters throwing a perfect game over six innings with 14 strikeouts. Parr was also 3-for-4 at the dish with a home run.
River Road is off to a strong start on the year and in district after drubbing Tulia 14-1 on Monday and downing Dalhart 18-3 on Friday. Senior leaders Ava Sharp and Carolyn Koval did most of the damage. Koval was a combined 6-for-7 in the pair of wins with two homers totaling six RBIs. Koval also threw five no-hit innings against Tulia with 11 strikeouts. Sharp was 5-for-7 in the two wins with two homers and seven RBIs. Sharp earned a win in the circle against Dalhart throwing five innings with nine strikeouts. River Road is now 15-6 overall and 2-0 in District 1-3A.
Despite a loss to Bushland, Canadian did get some momentum closing out the week by dismantling Tulia 21-1 on Friday. The Lady Cats are 14-5 on the year and 1-1 in league play. Maddlynn Longoria was 3-for-4 at the plate against the Lady Hornets with two doubles and five RBIs. Longoria also worked five innings scattering three hits with five K’s.
District 4-4A is proving to be as good as advertised
There is no doubt that District 4-4A is turning out to be just as good as advertised when it comes to the depth of quality teams.
The chase is on for a league championship and so far, Dumas, Pampa, and Randall all want are trying to stake a claim.
The Dumas Demonettes (21-3) remain all alone atop the district standings at 6-0 after getting two wins Monday and Friday. The Demonettes outslugged Canyon for a wild 23-13 win on a breezy Monday, and then were able to hold off a gutsy West Plains squad for a 5-4-win on Friday afternoon at the Lady Wolves Softball Complex.
In the Canyon victory, Dumas tallied 19 hits with Yaritza Vargas leading the way going 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Teammate Aaliyah Chairez was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double to end the contest with four runs driven in of her own.
Against West Plains, Dumas led 5-1 only to see the Lady Wolves rally with a three-run bottom of the seventh cutting the deficit 5-4. However, Star Cortes was able to get a clutch strikeout to end the game and preserve the win. Cortes tossed a complete game in the circle allowing six hits but did rack up eight strikeouts.
District 4-4A quick hits
After an 0-2 start to district, West Plains has gotten itself back in the district race. Earlier in the week, the Lady Wolves knocked off rival Randall 4-3 Jalen Kaps complete game with nine strikeouts. The Lady Wolves are currently 3-3 in District 4-4A.
Despite a loss to West Plains on Monday, Randall rallied back for a huge 18-7 victory at Pampa on Friday afternoon. The Lady Raiders racked up 20 hits against the Lady Harvesters scoring 12 of those runs in the first three innings. Tatum Gibson ate up Pampa pitching going 5-for-5 with two home runs and a triple to end the game with an eye-popping nine RBIs. Alyssa Navarrete added a home run of her own to add three RBIs. Randall (18-7) is two games back of Dumas at 4-2 in district. Pampa (13-3) is 5-1 in district play.
Hereford picked up its first two district wins this past week defeating Borger 5-4 and Perryton 8-2. Angeles Trevino went 2-for-3 against the Rangerettes with a double and three RBIs. Teammate Mal Enriquez worked 4.2 innings in relief giving up two runs with seven K’s. The Lady Whitefaces are now 2-4 in league action.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High remains unbeaten in 3-5A
Amarillo High stayed perfect in District 3-5A blasting Lubbock Monterey 25-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Sandies (16-6-2) are now atop the league race at 8-0.
AHS had already piled up 11 runs through the first three innings, but then nailed the coffin shut posting a 14-run top of the fourth to claim the win. Brianna Cloud went deep two different times and doubled finishing the game 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. Mykaela Samuels added a 4-for-5 day at the dish with a double and four RBIs. Samuels also worked three innings for the win in the circle with a pair of strikeouts, and Braylee Shuffield was 5-for-5 with a homer, a double and four RBIs.
District 3-5A quick hits
Caprock had a huge week earning a pair of lopsided victories. The Lady Longhorns blasted Lubbock Coronado 16-6 on Thursday and then pummeled Plainview 12-2 on Friday. Caprock (9-6-1) is now 5-3 in District 3-5A. Grace Morales was the standout for Caprock going a combined 6-for-8 including two homers, a triple with a total of five RBIs. Morales also held Plainview to five hits over seven innings with 12 strikeouts.
Tascosa was able to go 1-1 over the week. The Lady Rebels lost to Lubbock-Cooper 18-3 but did down Palo Duro 5-2.
District 1-2A
Gruver gets two big wins
The Gruver Lady Hounds continue to show the turnaround from a year ago getting two huge wins on Friday and Saturday.
Gruver went to eight innings on Friday night but was able to edge Sunray 14-12. On Saturday, the Lady Hounds rallied from a six-run deficit to stun West Texas High 12-9. Through the early portion of the District 1-2A schedule, Gruver (8-5) are off to a great start with a 4-1 mark in league play.
In the win against Sunray, Carly Neeley went 2-for-3 driving in four runs. Teammate Jacque Munoz chipped in three RBIs with a double on a 3-for-5 day at the dish. Against West Texas High, Neeley was clutch once again going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Munoz bashed a home run finishing with four RBIs.
Sanford-Fritch remained unbeaten in District 1-2A with a 22-6 blowout win against Highland Park on Saturday. The Lady Eagles are now 11-2 overall and 4-0 in district.
Kalynn Roberts led the way going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Teammate Hallie White added a double going 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
In District 2-2A, Clarendon opened league play getting two lopsided victories. The Lady Broncos run-ruled Quanah 25-3 on Tuesday followed by a 15-0 shutout against Lockney on Friday. Kennadie Cummins hit a grand slam to power the Lady Broncos against Quanah. Against Lockney, Tandie Cummins hit a pair of homers. Clarendon improves to 14-4 overall and 2-0 in the district.
