Randall gets clutch win over rival Canyon
In a game with a lot on the line, the Randall Lady Raiders kept their playoff hopes alive with a wild win over arch-rival Canyon 16-13 during a crucial District 4-4A showdown on Friday night.
The wind was blowing dead out of the Lady Raiders Softball Complex giving the hitters a distinct advantage and both teams capitalized combining for 29 runs and 30 hits.
More importantly, Randall (16-16 overall) kept its season alive with two games remaining in the regular season by pulling into a tie with Canyon (15-14) at 6-6 for the fourth and final playoff spot out of the very competitive district.
Canyon was in complete control opening up a 6-2 lead on the back of a six-run top of the second inning highlighted by a Maddie Hight three-run bomb.
Randall never backed down and started chipping away at the Lady Eagles lead scoring 11 runs from the bottom of the three or more runs from the bottom of the third to the bottom of the sixth to take over.
Landri Holcomb was instrumental guiding the comeback for the Lady Raiders. Holcomb was 3-for-5 while drilling a three-run homer early on to finish with four RBIs. Lauren Garcia was stellar as well going a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs.
Despite the loss, Hight hit two homers in the game and totaled six runs driven in.
Pampa and West Plains took care of business on Friday night to punch tickets to the Class 4A postseason.
The Lady Harvesters beat up Borger 8-2 while the Lady Wolves handled Hereford 14-4 at home.
Pampa (14-9) and West Plains (14-15-2) remain tied for second place out of District 4-4A at 9-3 just one game back of Dumas (24-6, 10-2) with two games remaining. The Demonettes stayed all alone in first place with a 23-1 blowout against Perryton on Friday.
District 3-5A
Caprock, Tascosa land in playoffs
It was a great night for two Amarillo ISD schools as both Caprock and Tascosa picked up wins to land spots in the Class 5A playoffs.
The Lady Longhorns went on the road and took care of Plainview 15-7. Caprock (10-9) is now 4-2 in district. Grace Morales was 2-for-4 that saw a solo homer to help the Lady Longhorns and teammate Kodi Shackelford added a pair of RBIs of her own on a 2-for-4 performance including a homer.
Tascosa found its way into the playoffs knocking off Palo Duro 35-5. The Lady Rebels (9-19 overall, 2-5) sit in fourth place just a game back of Plainview (7-10, 3-3) for third.
Emily Lane feasted on Lady Dons pitching with a career day hitting for the cycle. Lane finished 5-for-6 with a single, a double, a triple and two home runs to tally eight RBIs.
District 1-3A
Bushland clinches share of 1-3A title
Bushland clinched a share of the District 1-3A championship with an 11-1 win over River Road on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Falcons dominated at the plate and in the circle. Brooklyn Briano tossed three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to get the win. Charley Spinks was the spark at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Bushland (22-4-1) is now a perfect 8-0 in district. River Road (17-9) remains in second place at 5-3.
Tulia took care of Dimmitt 12-2 on Saturday to stay in third place. The Lady Hornets are now 16-11-2 overall and 5-3 in the league. Kyla Rodriguez got the win tossing six innings with nine K’s.
In the other district clash, Dalhart took care of Canadian 11-1.
District 1-2A
Claude’s Stone hits for the Cycle
The Clarendon Lady Broncos keep on trucking getting a 9-0 shutout over West Texas High on Friday night.
The Lady Broncos are right at the top of District 1-2A at 9-1 and 24-3-1 overall. The Lady Comanches drop to 3-5 in district and 7-7-1 overall.
Claude beat up Booker 21-11 thanks to a huge day for Ali Stone. Stone had a career effort hitting for the cycle on a 5-for-5 outing with two triples and three RBIs while racking up nine strikeouts in the circle.
