Arionna Black, Canadian track and field, Jr.
On the track: The junior put together one of her better track meets of her career leaving the Bobcat Relays in Childress last Thursday with some serious hardware.
Black was able to win four events getting gold medals in the 800-meter run with a new personal best time of 2:24, then won the 400-meter race by clocking a 1:02, struggled through pouring rain to vault 7-feet-6 inches to get the pole vault gold and was on the winning mile relay team that ran a 4:12.
Coach Jay McCook: “Arionna is one of it not the hardest working athletes we have. She’s constantly working and doing everything she is asked to do. She is a great teammate, and we love having her on the team. She was able to set a new personal-best in the 800-meter run and ran a great quarter and then had a really good split on the mile relay team. She’s always looking to improve and expand on her potential.”
Black: “This track season has been good so far. I’ve been able to hit new personal-best times every week and reaching those goals. I’m just being patient and doing the most work I can on my free time. I didn’t do very well in the pole vault at Childress, but it was hard because it was pouring rain, but I was able to run really well in the 800-meter run despite not getting much of a push. I love running with my teammates in the mile relay and we all did well on our splits. I just want to keep working and getting better.”
