Texline routs Wildorado to capture 3-1A crown, Beckner picks up win No. 500

Texline left no doubt that they were the team to beat in District 3-1A by not only capturing the outright district title but doing it in convincing fashion on Friday night.

The No. 4-ranked Tornadoes jumped all over the No. 14 Mustangs in what was supposed to be a battle of two Class 1A heavy weights, but in the end, it was Texline walking out of the Wildorado Gym with a lopsided 71-26 victory.

This didn’t mirror the first meeting three weeks ago where the Tornadoes edged the Mustangs 53-46 in Texline.

Texline came out on fire from the start behind a red-hot hand of senior Hayden Drumm. Drumm couldn’t miss in the first half knocking down five 3-pointers that helped the Tornadoes jump out to a 26-6 first quarter lead and a 33-14 advantage by half.

The second half was more of the same as the Tornadoes never looked back. Drumm finished with a game-high 33 points followed by teammate Joe Clay’s 17 points.

Texline head coach Coby Beckner also celebrated a special milestone by earning his prestigious 500th career win on Friday night. Beckner has been a head coach for 30 years and has spent the past nine years as the head man of the Tornadoes. Beckner led Texline to a UIL Class 1A state championship in 2021.

Randall gets emotional win

Playing with extremely heavy hearts the Randall Raiders pulled together for an emotional 85-63 home win against Hereford.

It’s been a very trying week for Randall, as for the first time in 36 years legendary and veteran head coach Leslie Broadhurst wasn’t pacing the sidelines on Friday night. On Thursday afternoon, Canyon ISD issued a statement saying that the beloved Broadhurst has taken a leave of absence to deal with a medical issue.

Facing a very difficult situation, longtime assistant Trevor Johnson has stepped in for Broadhurst and guided the Raiders to the victory against the Whitefaces.

Johnson’s team came together and played for Broadhurst on Friday night with Devin Baccas pouring in a game-high 21 points, KJ Thomas racking up 18 points, Taysen Combs adding 14, Christian Smith chipping in 11 and Dawson Heider finishing with 10.

From us here at Press Pass Sports, we love you coach Broadhurst and wish you all the best.

Danner Price of Sanford-Fritch continues his stellar play by registering a double-double in a 51-46 win over West Texas High. Price delivered and then some with a game-high 32 points while pulling down 18 rebounds against the Comanches.
