Lubbock-Cooper Liberty wins second UIL state golf title in the last three years; Wildorado’s Hunter Corman wins Class 1A individual title

For the second time in three years, the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty Patriots are UIL Class 4A state champions.

The Patriots put together a strong 36-holes of golf by shooting a team score of 584 to hold off Andrews (589) by five strokes during the state golf tournament at the Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

LCP, which opened just three years ago as a school, fired an opening round 290 on Monday followed by a 294 on Tuesday. Pacing the Patriots was Reed Blackcock, who tied for a bronze individual medal. Blackcock carding a 1-over-par 142, shooting a 69 in his first round and a 73 on the final 18 holes. Teammate Cole Barr placed eighth with a three-over-par 136 with scores of 71-75. The Lubbock-Cooper Liberty B team took sixth overall (618).

Playing as an individual, Randall’s Madden Myers was 15th (149).

Class 1A

The Wildorado Mustangs rallied back from sixth place Monday to get on the medal stand with a silver medal team finish during the UIL Class 1A state tournament at the Crystal Falls Golf Course in Austin.

The Mustangs, who won the state championship last year, fired rounds of 361-363 – 724 to tie for second with Knippa. Garden City won the team state championship (717).

Wildorado’s Hunter Corman carried the momentum from his regional title to win the Class 1A individual state championship. Corman was outstanding over both days carding rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147. Corman was able to hold off last year’s state champion Bo Bradley of Texline by four shots (151). Corman ended the tournament with two birdies to his round.

Class 2A

Coming off a regional championship, Farwell’s Cooper Nichols was red-hot once again, leaving Austin with more hardware.

Nichols helped Farwell to a fourth place team finish while winning an individual silver medal during the UIL Class 2A state golf tournament at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Nichols, who shot 12-under-par at the Region I-2A Tournament, had two superb days at state, finishing with a tally of 5-under-par 136. Nichols shot a opening round of 70, and then followed that up with an impressive 66 on Tuesday. Nichols ended his two days tallying 10 birdies. Farwell shot a team score of 310.

State quick hits

  • The Amarillo High Sandies finished ninth as a team (629) during the UIL Class 5A state tournament at the Legacy Golf Club in Georgetown on Monday and Tuesday. Gavin Norrell paced the Sandies earning 22nd place as an individual. Norrell registered rounds of 74-75 for a 3-over-par 149.
  • Idalou’s Kallaway Soto took home a bronze medal as an individual during the UIL Class 3A state tournament at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin. Soto fired a first round 68, followed by a second round 74 for a 2-over-par 142. Shallowater was fifth overall as a team (639).
