Slover, a sophomore, rallied back from a first round 85, to fire a second round 81 to win the regional championship with a 36-hole total of 166. Slover also captured her second consecutive District 1-2A title earlier this month carding rounds of 80-78 – 158.

Slover and the Lynxettes will compete at the Class 2A state tournament on May 4-5 at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Coach Chad Wilkerson: “To advance as a team once again was fantastic. The first Spearman team advanced in the 1970’s and then in the 90’s, so to go back-to-back now is something special. This team is awesome because they do everything together. Izzabella loves playing with her teammates and this group is just so much fun to be around. Watching Izzabella, I’ve really seen her mental side come together. We went to the Jim Ned Invitational this spring and I could see a big difference in her game. I think playing varsity basketball helped and she’s just the type of kid that always wants to improve.”

Slover: “It feels great to win district and regionals back-to-back. Winning as a team was even better. We have great seniors and we are such close friends and it was such a fun feeling. This team is very special. This year, I feel I’ve very much improved from a mental aspect. I’ve improved physically and my scores have been better, but I’m a lot stronger mentally. I’ve kept more composed.”
