District 2-1A
The White Deer Bucks and Does made it a clean team sweep during the District 2-1A Track and Field Meet on Wednesday at Bucks Stadium in White Deer.
The Does were able to outlast Claude (128) by posting 178 points to win the team title.
Standout sprinter Faith Jackson and distance runner Makayla Chaney paced the Does on the big day. Jackson, who suffered a scare last week after a fall in a regular season meet, came back strong by qualifying for the area round in four events. Jackson had a leap of 15-feet-8 inches to win a gold in the long jump. In the running portion, Jackson kept up the momentum tallying a time of 13 seconds to win the 100-meter dash and was a part of the Does gold medal winning 800-meter relay (1:57.21). Jackson’s fourth event at area will be in the high jump after clearing 4-4 to get bronze at district.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]Chaney brought home three gold medals. Chaney dominated the distance events winning the 3200-meter race with a 11:59.96, and then won the 1600-meter run (5:33.71). Chaney took her third gold medal as a part of the 800-meter relay squad.
Individually, McLean’s Gracee Henderson and Hailo Moon were double champions. Henderson won the 400-meter race thanks to a 1:02.93 and the 800-meter event (2:29.09). Moon went double gold in the throwing events launching a 112-3 1/2 in the discus and a 39-2 1/2 in the shot put.
Shamrock’s Addi Jernigan is also headed to area after sweeping the hurdles. Jernigan clocked a 17.52 to gain a victory in the 100-meter hurdles and found the medal stand once more with a 50.93 in the 300-meter. Jernigan also punched a ticket to area as part of the silver medal sprint relay team for the Lady Irish.
On the boys’ side, the Bucks ran away from the field with 204 points outscoring second place McLean (110.5) by almost 100 points.
Caynden Mynear was the star of the meet for White Deer. The talented runner took matters into his own hands in the field events clearing 5-10 to find the gold medal stand in high jump. During the running events, Mynear overtook the competition with a win the 800-meter (2:05.96) and the 1600-meter race (5:02.43). He made it five golds on the day capping off the race as part of the mile relay that clocked a 3:35.65.
Teammate Braxton Brown also had a superb meet. Brown won the triple jump by leaping to a 41-4. Brown then won two more gold medals as a part of White Deer’s sprint relay (45.08) and the mile relay.
Groom’s Clay Olivera is headed to area with two golds. Olivera sprinted to a time of 24.68 to win the 200-meter dash and hit a mark of 19-2 1/2 to win the long jump. Teammate Jacob Babcock won the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.21 while McLean’s Stran Henderson took gold in the 300-meter hurdles getting a time of 41.25, and Hedley thrower Josue Prieto had a gold medal toss of 132-2 1/2 to win discus and earned bronze in the shot put (37-2 1/2).

District 1-1A
A busy week of district meets got started Tuesday with the District 1-1A Track and Field Meet at Miami with the Booker Kiowas and Miami Lady Warriors bringing home team titles.
The Kiowas won the district title with a total of 225 points with the Lady Warriors racking up 175 points for a district championship.
Booker’s Gael Alvarez and Felix Au put on quite the show during the afternoon. Alvarez won three gold medals in impressive fashion by sweeping all three distance events. Alvarez won the 3200-meter race with an 11:06.40, then won the 800-meter run getting a 2:17.03 and won the 1600-meter event clocking a 5:09.81.
Au was able to grab gold in both hurdle events and was a part of the mile relay winning team. Au won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.94, and then got on the gold medal stand in the 300-meter hurdles with a 42.03. Au was also a leg on the gold medal mile relay team that ran a 3:39.50.
On the girls’ side, Miami’s Bentley Brooks was able to make it a clean sweep in the hurdle races. Brooks raced to a 17.07 for a win in the 100- meter hurdles and a time of 55.39 to get a victory in the 300-meter race. Brooks will also got to area on the Lady Warriors sprint relay team.
However, it was Kelton’s MKinzi McManus that was the MVP of the meet. McManus punched a ticket to area in five events winning five gold medals. McManus won three field events clearing 5-0 to get a gold in the high jump, then popped off a 32-1 1/4 to win the triple jump and went 16-1 for another gold in the long jump. In the running, McManus blazed to a time of 12.64 for a win the 100-meter dash and won the 200-meter event with a gold medal time of 27.04.

District 4-1A
It was a clean sweep for the Silverton track and field programs as the Owls and Lady Owls won the team championships during the District 4-1A Track and Field Meet at Younger Field in Tulia on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Owls put together a very good showing with 174 points to beat second place Happy, which had 119.
Silverton’s Maddie Francis was on display like she was last week in White Deer. Francis hauled in the hardware Thursday walking away with four gold medals and a silver. Francis started her morning winning the high jump by clearing 5-2, and popping off a 17-1 1/4 to win the long jump. In the afternoon, Francis swept the hurdle races clocking a 16.24 in the 100-meter race and a 46.89 to win the 300-meter. She was also part of the silver medal sprint relay team (54.25).
Hope McLain of Kress was a double champion. McLain ran a time of 1:03.24 to win the 400-meter dash and then won the 800-meter run with a 2:24.30.
In boys’ action, Silverton’s Slayton Cagle won the 110-hurdle clocking a time of 18.43 and teammate Cooper Mullins won the long jump leaping 38-1 while getting silver in the 100-meter dash sprinting to a 12.63.
Happy’s J’Lond Ferguson qualified in two of the long distance events. Ferguson got on the gold medal podium in the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:23.99 and was second place in the 1600-meter (5:12.64).
The District 3-1A/ 4-1A Area Track and Field Meet is set for Thursday at Younger Field in Tulia.
