The regular season kickoffs on Aug. 26, as Six-man teams across the Amarillo-area get ready for an exciting 2025 season. Here’s 10 Six-man football players to watch that will make a major impact in the Texas Panhandle.
Kris Gorecki, Miami, 5-10, 230-pounds, OL-DL, Sr.
The Warriors racked up over 3,500 yards on offense last year and Gorecki was a big reason why. The returning all-state center had 41 pancake blocks on the season and garnered a spot on the All-Press Pass team last year. Miami returns a large contingent of skill players back and are driven to make a deep playoff run this season with their big man up front leading the way.
Reydn Rosales, Booker, 6-foot, 165-pounds, RB-DL, Sr.
Look for the Kiowas high-flying offense to be more run oriented this year and Rosales will be a key cog in that. The senior was an All-District end last year but head coach David Biddler will now count on him to tote the rock behind a more physical offensive line. Despite his thin frame, Rosales has proven to be a tough runner who has the speed to take it to the house every time he touches the ball.
Thomas Slack, Claude, 5-10, 180-pounds, RB-LB, Jr.
The Mustangs return a slew of starters from last year and Slack is one of the reasons the folks in Claude are excited about the upcoming season. He led them in tackles last year from his linebacker position racking up 109 tackles, 63 of those solo while earning first-team All-District honors. Offensively, he racked up 713 yards and eight scores with a hard-nosed running style.
Wyatt Terrell, Follett, 5-11, 177-pounds, RB-DL, Sr.
Another player back from the All-Press Pass team is the hard-hitting end for the Panthers. Terrell tallied 66 tackles last season, 48 of those in the final five games as offensive coordinators quickly took note of where he was lined up. With David Meeks gone, Terrell will shoulder more of the load on offense, and he should be up to the challenge. The gunslinger threw for 998 yards and 13 touchdowns last season while amassing 555 yards on the ground and finding paydirt on seven of those carries.
Stran Henderson, McLean, 5-11, 170-pounds, RB-LB, Jr.
A dislocated shoulder in the opening game of the year caused Henderson to miss two games but he more than made up for it by rushing for 1,023 yards and 22 scores. In the final game of the year, he racked up 323 yards on perennial power Motley County while carrying the rock 39 times. It’s that type of performance that earned him second-team All-Region honors. Fully healthy now, look for the Tigers to lean on the speedster to position them for a playoff run.
Karson Vaughn, White Deer, 6-3, 200-pounds, OL-DL, Sr.
In the six-man ranks Vaughn stands out in a crowd with his size. After earning All-District honors last year, new head coach Ruben Guerrero will look to his senior to open up holes for a talented backfield and for opposing offenses to game plan around him. A playoff berth is possible for the Bucks and Vaughn is a big reason why.
Damian Valdes, Valley, 5-10, 190-pounds, RB-DL-LB, Jr.
After missing the first five games of the season last year, Valdes made his mark on the Patriots offense by gaining 516 yards rushing and ten touchdowns, but it was his blocking during that time that earned him a spot on the All-Press Pass team. Valley gained 1,700 yards in the final six games of the year behind the relentless blocking of Valdes. The junior has added weight to his frame which could spell trouble for the opponent.
Cameron Pohlmeier, Nazareth, 5-7, 140-pounds, RB-LB Jr. and Lincoln Pohlmeier, Nazareth, 5-9, 155-pounds, QB-LB Jr.
The Pohlmeier twins have been tough to separate since birth so why start now. Head coach Tyler Goodwin lost a plethora of players to graduation, but Cameron and Lincoln give Swifts fans hope for another strong season. The duo stepped up last year after injuries wreaked havoc at the skill positions and showed they were more than capable to lead the team. Now the pair will shoulder the load for Nazareth in hopes of getting back to the playoffs.
Marco Flores, Booker, 5-8, 160-pounds, QB-LB Sr.
An All-District spread back last year, Flores will go under center this year to replace Chase Nelson. With Booker running the ball more, the gritty senior will be counted on to lead block for Rosales. Teams will need to be weary through the air, though, as the Kiowas offense won’t be boring and the senior’s arm is more than capable of torching a defense.
Jack Kotara, Miami, 5-7, 145-pounds, QB-LB, Sr.
One of those skill players behind Gorecki is the diminutive quarterback for the Warriors. Last year, Kotara proved to be a dual threat registering more than 1,200 total yards and 16 touchdowns but his play at linebacker earned him second team All-Region honors. Miami will look to the senior for more of the same on offense while helping spearhead a defense that wants to grab a district title and make a playoff run.
