On the course: The Tascosa Rebels have been on a season-long roll and that continued as Tascosa made history capturing the programs first ever Region I-5A team championship last week at the LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock.

Tascosa shot a 36-round score of 311-313 for a 624 holding off Abilene Wylie which placed second with 628 points.

Bybee was outstanding during his two rounds for the Rebels. Bybee found the medal stand as an individual placing third shooting a two-over par 150. On Wednesday, Bybee posted a 76 followed by a 74 on Thursday. Bybee was also the District 3-5A individual champion with rounds of 73 and 72 for a 145 at the LakeRidge Golf Course earlier this month.

Coach Trey Scales: “It was special to be able to make history and win that first regional championship. Last year we had that expectation but didn’t come together, so to come back and get the job done is gratifying. It was a sigh of relief and shows what we’re capable of. Joe had a lot to do with why we won and where we are as a program. He carries himself with confidence and is the anchor of the team. He is always steady and knows how to talk to the guys. He is strong mentally and has stepped up as a leader this year.”

Bybee: “It was great to get the first ever regional title for the school. We went out there as a team and had fun. I think we all have a strong connection with one another, and we all put in a lot of work to make success happen. For myself, I think my mental game is so much better this year. I have the mindset of winning and having fun more than the mechanics of golf.”
