District 4-4A

The Texas Panhandle’s most interesting district didn’t disappoint when it comes to drama as the regular season comes to an end next week.

Dumas eliminated any drama winning its second straight outright District 4-4A crown on Friday, but there is a lot to figure out for the next three spots for teams that want to keep their seasons going into the postseason. With two games remaining in the regular season, Pampa, West Plains and Randall all sit at 8-4 in District 4-4A tied for second with Canyon at 7-5 just a game back for that final playoff spot.

The Pampa Lady Harvesters did what they needed to do by pummeling Perryton on Senior Day 22-0. Pampa (14-6 overall, 8-4 in district) had a great showing from Maecie Hawthorne. Hawthorne threw a no-hitter over four innings in the circle with eight strikeouts and then did her job at the plate going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Briley Daniels was outstanding as well with a 4-for-4 outing that included a homer and three RBIs.

Dumas won the outright District 4-4A title for a second straight year after doubling up Canyon 8-4 on Friday. The Demonettes are playing well sitting at 27-3 overall and 12-0 in the league. Madi Zubia homered and finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Vida Fierro drove in two runs on a double and Star Cortes worked all seven innings for the win with four K’s. With two games left, Canyon (20-7-2) is currently in fifth place at 7-5 in district.

West Plains picked up a huge 6-0 shutout against rival Randall to pull into a second-place tie in the district. The Lady Wolves (12-12-1) and Randall (22-9) are now both at 8-4 in district. Jaylen Kaps was incredible in the circle for West Plains on Friday. Kaps handcuffed Lady Raider hitters allowing only four hits over seven innings with 10 strikeouts. Kaps also had an RBI double.

In one other district clash, Hereford beat Borger 9-8. Evelyn Brethour had a two-run double for the Lady Whitefaces in the victory.

District 3-5A

Amarillo High has secured second place in District 3-5A and will be the top-seed in the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

The Lady Sandies (22-8-2 overall, 13-2 in district) did that with a 10-0 shutout of Lubbock High on Wednesday followed by an 11-7 win over Lubbock Monterey on Friday.

Braylee Shuffield was a combined 4-for-6 in the pair of victories with a homer and five total RBIs. Amree Anglin threw in both games for AHS. Against LHS, Anglin went six innings without allowing a run with six K’s.

Caprock has found itself in serious trouble when it comes to the postseason after back-to-back losses to Lubbock-Cooper and Lubbock Coronado on Wednesday and Friday. The Lady Longhorns fell to the Lady Pirates 9-6 on Wednesday and then suffered an 11-8 defeat to Coronado on Friday.

Caprock (12-9-1) is currently 8-7 in District 3-5A, a half of a game back of Lubbock High (8-6) and Lubbock Monterey (8-6) for the final playoff spot. The Lady Longhorns have one game left in the regular season at home against Plainview on Tuesday.

Despite the losses to Cooper and Coronado, Annalyse Gonzalez was tremendous for Caprock going a combined 7-for-8 in the two games with two homers while driving in a combined three runs.

District 1-3A

The River Road Lady Wildcats made a long trip to Childress worth the mileage pulling away for an 11-3 victory against the Lady Bobcats during a District 1-3A clash Friday.

River Road (21-6) remains all alone atop the 1-3A race at 8-0 with two games remaining in the regular season. Childress (12-10-1) is in the postseason at the Division II level at 4-4 but is battling Canadian for the top-seed.

The Lady Wildcats were in control Friday leading all of the way but put a nail in the coffin on Childress in the top of seventh thanks to plating six runs highlighted by a two-run double from Emma Kilman. Teammate Ava Sharp lived by her last name going the distance in the circle with 12 strikeouts. Sharp is only three K’s away from 400 for her career. At the plate, Sharp did the damage as well going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple with a pair of RBIs. Sidnee Kane chipped in going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Bushland blasted Tulia 19-1 to remain a game behind River Road in the District 1-3A chase. The Lady Falcons are currently 15-13 overall and 7-1 in the league. Addison Appier went 3-for-4 against the Lady Hornets with two doubles and three RBIs.

Canadian kept pace with Childress with a 5-2 win against Dalhart on Friday. The Lady Cats are 17-8 overall and now 4-4 in the district standing. Freshman Maddlynn Longoria had herself quite the day for Canadian. In the circle, Longoria threw a complete game racking up an eye-opening 17 strikeouts. At the plate, Longoria delivered going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to finish with two RBIs.

District 2-2A

Clarendon completed the week at 3-0 after getting another lopsided win 11-0 against Memphis on Friday. The Lady Broncos remain atop the District 2-2A race at 6-1 while improving to 18-5 overall. Kennadie Cummins struck out 12 Lady Cyclones in the win over five innings and hit a homer.

District 1-2A

There were a few crossover non-district games from District 1-2A on Friday. Sunray defeated Follett 26-4 and Booker beat Highland Park 7-4.
