Tenera Gray, Randall track and field, Sr.
On the track: Gray made a strong case for a definite MVP candidate during the 74th Amarillo Relays Meet of Champions last Saturday. The senior do-it-all athlete medaled in five different events and set two new school records to leave her mark on the program.
Gray set her first school record popping a 37-10 to win gold in the triple jump. The second school record fell when Gray clocked a time of 43.70 to get back on the gold medal stand in the 300-meter hurdles. Gray won her third gold medal of the meet as a part of an 800-meter relay team that posted a 1:45.67 while also taking silver in high jump (5-2) and bronze in the long jump (17-5).
Coach Jenna Jesko: “Tenera has flown under the radar most of her high school career. She was hurt as a junior last year and still ran the hurdles and made it to the state meet. She runs cross country; she plays basketball which had her starting late getting ready for track. She was able to come in healthy this year and on a mission. She’s big in her faith, she’s trusts the process and it showed by what she did at the Amarillo Relays. It just makes all of us so happy for her.”
Gray: “I was nervous heading into the meet, but things started to flow, and I was able to boost my confidence. It meant a lot to me to win those medals and break those school records. That has been a goal, and I’ve worked hard to accomplish it. I am feeling strong right and my confidence is very high. I just want to keep seeing what I can do.”
