WTAMU Lady Buffs rack up more postseason accolades

Emma Becker, Bryli Contreras and Taytum Stow were honored for their efforts on the court on Wednesday afternoon as they claimed All-Region accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Stow and Becker earned First Team honors while Contreras was an honorable mention selection.

Stow, a Hereford graduate, added another award to her already impressive resume being named to the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) Volleyball All-South-Central Region First Team.

The two-time Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year has dominated in the middle of the court for the Lady Buffs during her junior campaign as Stow product registered 189 kills on 402 attempts with 47 errors for an attack percentage of .353 to go along with a team-best 133 total blocks to average 1.30 per set for a total of 273.0 points on the season.

Stow ranks 16th in all of Division II Volleyball in blocks per set (1.30) while sitting 19th in total blocks (133.0) and 41st in attack percentage (.353). She was named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team, leading the Lady Buffs to an unbeaten league record and the program’s 22nd LSC Championship. Stow now moves onto the D2CCA All-American ballot.

Becker led WTAMU in kills (324) and points (359.5) as she averages 3.15 kills per set for an attack percentage of .302. She has registered six aces, five assists, 137 digs and 55 total blocks to average 3.49 points per set.

Becker was also named a First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection as well as a member of the LSC All-Tournament team.

Contreras has been a force in the back row for the LSC Champion Lady Buffs during her time in Canyon as the senior libero has a team-best 485 digs to average 4.71 per set to go along with 38 service aces which ranks sixth in the LSC.

The Canyon graduate has hit the floor for 1,810 career digs with 1,487 of them coming in a Lady Buff uniform to rank 10th on West Texas A&M’s career digs list.

Contreras was a Second Team All-LSC selection as well as a member of the LSC All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Buffs (25-4) open the NCAA Division II South-Central Regional championship at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon as they take on No. 7-seed UT Tyler in the quarterfinal round at the Stephens Arena inside of the Junell Center in San Angelo.
