In that 59-41 win, Lujan put his name in the state record books toppling Aledo’s Jonathan Gray (205 touchdowns) as the all-time leader for touchdowns in a career with 208.

Lujan diced up the Panthers defense with both his arm and his feet. Through the air, the senior gunslinger was 29-of-39 for 409 yards with five touchdowns. He then added 71 yards on the ground with two more scores and returned an interception on defense 78-yards for a TD.

On top of his newly crowned touchdown record, Lujan is closing in on the all-time UIL state passing record. Through the first eight games, Lujan has thrown for 2,185 yards this season which puts him at 13,322 yards for his career. He needs 1,086 yards to break Booker’s Hunter Lile’s all-time mark of 14,408 set in 2013.

Coach Wes Boatmun: “It was big for us to get a win like that. We haven’t been able to get that type of district win the past two years, so that goes a long way for our confidence. Armando is a great young man, and I made sure to tell him after the game how big that accomplishment that was, he achieved and how proud he should be. We’re all proud of him. It was special for the community, and we’ll be able to have that for a longtime. Breaking records is something that is never easy to come by.”

Lujan: “I’m very happy we got the win. That’s something we were focused to do. Getting that record meant a lot to me and I’ll never forget that, but it’s not as big as getting such a great team win. We’re focused on getting better each week and playing together as a team.”
