District 1-2A Division II 

Gruver stays unbeaten rolling by Vega 

It was another night at the office for Gruver as the Greyhounds carried on their unbeaten season with a 56-0 thumping of Vega at home during a District 1-2A Division II game on Friday night.

The Greyhounds, who clinched a playoff spot as well as a share of the district title, stay perfect on the year at 9-0 overall and are now 3-0 in district play. The Longhorns are now 1-6 overall and 0-2 in district.

A plethora of players lit up the stat sheet for the Greyhounds. Quarterback Briggs Satterfield was 11-of-15 passing for 157 yards with three touchdowns. Walker Maupin ran for three scores on 126 yards rushing and Dax Conyers added 10 carries for 60 yards.

Brock Butler caught two passes for 70 yards with a touchdown and had seven tackles with an interception return for a score. Emmanuel Valverde finished the game with 10 tackles and was 8-for-8 on extra-points.

Stratford beats up Bovina

The Stratford Elks made the most coming off a bye week in with a manhandling Bovina 63-0 on Eddie Metcalf Field at E.L. Sam Bass Stadium on Friday night.

The Elks (4-3) are now 1-1 in District 1-2A Division II. Bovina (2-6) falls to 0-3.

Chase Lantelme had a big night taking most of the snaps on offense going 10-of-16 for 165 yards with three touchdowns. Lantelme also had 65-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Darius Jones was the main target for Lantelme hauling in six catches for 91 yards with a pair of scores. Jones also blocked a punt on special teams, and Bryce Braden toted the rock 11 times for 58 yards with a touchdown.

District 1-2A Division I

West Texas High grounds Sanford-Fritch 

West Texas High bounced back from a tough loss to Panhandle getting a 68-0 shutout win over rival Sanford-Fritch at home on Friday night.

The Comanches are now 2-1 in district play and 6-2 overall. Fritch falls to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in district.

Quarterback Cayde Winters used his feet to pile up 206 yards rushing with four touchdowns.

Teammate Kelby Sherwood was a tremendous compliment carrying the ball 14 times for 146 yards with two scores. Riley Buck and Kooper Hernandez each had touchdown catches.

Spearman runs by Highland Park 

Spearman has put together back-to-back wins running by Highland Park 53-12 at home on Friday night.

JP Carbajal led a devastating ground game that piled up 500 yards. Carbajal was unstoppable carrying the ball 37 times for 350 yards with six touchdowns and tacked on a two-point conversion.

Quarterback Hudson Swan chipped in with 111 yards on the ground on six carries with a score and Brayson Goodheart went for 87 yards and a TD. On top of his offensive effort, Goodheart made 12 tackles including two for a loss. Landon Sonnenburg added 13 tackles.

The Lynx (3-5) pushes their district record to 2-1. Highland Park (3-5) is now 0-3 in district.

District 5-2A Division II quick hits 

  • Wellington cruised to a 56-14 win over Shamrock on Friday night. The Skyrockets were led by Noah Cantu and Travon Lewis. Cantu chewed up 133 yards with two scores while Lewis ran for 101 yards with three touchdowns. Wellington (6-2) stays perfect at 3-0 in district.
  • Wheeler did give up its first touchdown in 19 quarters, but still took care of Clarendon 59-6 on Friday. The Mustangs are now 3-0 in district play and 6-1 overall. The Broncos struggles continue falling to 0-8 overall and 0-3. Julius Atherton galloped for 280 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns.
  • Quanah outgunned Memphis 39-26. The Indians get their first win on the year moving to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in district. The Cyclones drop to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.
