District 4-4A

Hereford downs Dumas 

Hereford opened up District 4-4A on the right foot Saturday afternoon getting a huge road win at Dumas in a four-set victory 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15.

Under first-year head coach Emma Russell, the Lady Whitefaces improve to 18-13 overall and 1-0 in district play. Dumas drops to 15-15 and 0-1.

London Baker stepped up for Hereford with a team-high 18 kills and 14 assists for a double-double. Madi Madrigal did her part on offense with 28 assists while adding nine digs on defense.

Dumas’ Rylee Schacher had a double-double of her own with 15 kills and 10 blocks at the net as did Sophie Clements with 16 assists and 10 digs. Kennedy Clements tallied 10 kills.

Canyon soars by Pampa 

It was a strong showing to get league play started for a very talented Canyon squad as the Lady Eagles soared past Pampa with a 25-9, 25-22, 25-16, sweep in Pampa on Saturday.

Canyon was strong in every aspect especially at the net with senior Sydnee Winfrey paving the way thanks to eight kills and six blocks.

Alainna Bellino and London Gibson ran the offense combining for 33 assists. Belino, who had 23 of those assists, was solid on the back row getting seven digs. Teammate Landri Jay led the Lady Eagles in digs with 15.

Despite the loss, Pampa’s Maecie Hawthorne was superb getting nine assists, eight kills and six digs.

Canyon (14-10) is now 1-0 in District 4-4A. Pampa (14-10) falls to 0-1.

West Plains beats up Borger 

West Plains looked very solid to open district season by not having any issues with the Borger Lady Bulldogs in a 25-11, 25-19, 25-14, sweep Saturday at the Bulldog Gym.

The Lady Wolves move their overall record to 17-10 on the year and 1-0 in 4-4A. Borger is now 10-12, 0-1.

Aaniyah Kitchen keeps her great season going earning a team-high 15 kills to go with three blocks while teammate Piper Patterson registered 11 digs with seven kills and had a big serving day with four aces.

Emilee Bridges topped Borger with nine assists and six digs.

Randall defeats Perryton 

First-year head coach Karli Morrison and the Randall Lady Raiders made a long road trip north well worth it in a three-set sweep over Perryton, 25-8, 25-9, 25-15.

Outside hitter Brooke Henderson sparked the victory with eight digs and seven aces. Senior setter Sidney Soria handed out 23 assists and Haviland Valdez chipped in 10 kills.

Randall jumps out to a 1-0 start in District 4-4A and is now 16-11 overall. Perryton (6-16) is 0-1 to kick off league play.

District 3-5A

Tascosa takes down Lubbock Monterey 

Tascosa didn’t overlook Lubbock Monterey before a huge showdown with Amarillo High on Tuesday night.

The Lady Rebels were focused on Saturday making it a home sweep against the Lady Plainsman 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.

Tascosa stays undefeated in District 3-5A at 4-0 while pushing their overall record to 22-7. Monterey falls to 16-13 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Molly Culp was strong offensively for the Lady Rebels knocking down a game-high 12 kills and added two blocks. Bennet Berryman hit the floor for 20 digs and served very well with four aces.

Amarillo High cruises by Lubbock High 

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies made quick work of Lubbock High on Friday afternoon with a convincing 25-13, 25-7, 25-11 sweep.

AHS (23-6) remains perfect in 3-5A at 5-0 and are now set to host crosstown rival Tascosa on Tuesday. LHS drops to 10-13, 0-5.

Sienna Cavalier powered down 10 kills with seven digs for the Lady Sandies. Bennett Rea and Payton Cash each had 15 assists and Ellen Head was masterful on the service line with eight aces.

In two other district matchups, Lubbock-Cooper kept pace with Amarillo High and Tascosa with a win against Caprock 25-13, 25-6, 25-17. The Lady Pirates are 4-0 in league play and 20-9 overall. Caprock (13-13) is 1-4 in 3-5A.

Plainview picked up its first district win getting a 3-0 sweep of Palo Duro on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 11-12 overall and 1-4 in district. The Lady Dons drop to 10-13 and 0-4.

Weekend quick hits 

  • Bushland went down I-27 and dismantled Class 6A Frenship 25-12, 25-19, 25-23, on Saturday. The Lady Falcons (28-4) were led by Mackenzie Sims double-double effort with 20 assists and 10 digs
  • Dalhart rolled over Amarillo PCHEA 25-11, 25-8, 25-8 on Saturday. The Lady Wolves (18-4-1) saw Elli Bezner get 11 assists in the win which put her over 1,000 for her career.
  • Sanford-Fritch brought home a pair of wins Saturday beating Northside (25-16, 25-23) and Childress (25-27, 25-16, 25-23). The Lady Eagles are now 18-4 overall. Zoe Deatherage combined for 36 assists in both matches.
  • Vega cruised to a sweep of Dimmitt 25-11, 25-19, 25-17. The Lady Longhorns (21-4) were led by Kai’lan Sturgeon’s eight kills and DJ DeGraaf’s six aces.
  • West Texas High beat Miami for the second time in a week. The Lady Comanches (15-8) swept the Lady Warriors 25-20, 25-12, 25-19. Scout Burris tallied seven aces.
  • Highland Park knocked off Wildorado in five sets 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13, on Saturday. Tessica Deanda was lights out with 14 kills and 17 assists for a double-double. Teammate Ariana Harton also had a double-double with 20 assists and 15 digs.
  • San Jacinto Christian Academy stayed unbeaten in TAPPS District 1-2A. The Lady Patriots (23-3, 2-0 in district) beat Southcrest 25-12, 25-10, 26-24. Harlie Brabham registered a double-double with 17 digs and 15 kills.
  • Holy Cross Catholic Academy picked up its first league win beating Christ The King 25-7, 25-20, 25-8, on Saturday. The Lady Mustangs are now 13-8 overall and 1-1 in TAPPS District 1-2A. Madison Valdez handed out 31 assists and knocked down four kills. Teammate Mia Luna had nine aces and six kills.
