District 3-5A

Amarillo High cruises by Caprock 

Amarillo High took care of business swiftly on Tuesday dismantling crosstown foe Caprock 25-7, 25-8, 25-13, during a District 3-5A match at home on Tuesday.

Payton Cash the steady hand for AHS handing out 13 assists while racking up seven kills to go with eight digs. Sienna Cavalier knocked down a team-best 20 kills, Bennett Rea finished with 23 assists and Ellen Head had a great serving night with four aces and seven digs.

In the other 3-5A matches Tuesday, Lubbock Coronado swept Palo Duro 25-8, 25-16, 25-13. Coronado improves to 15-14 overall and 2-2 in district. Palo Duro drops to 0-3 in the league and 10-12 overall.

Lubbock-Cooper stayed unbeaten in 3-5A to keep pace with the Lady Sandies. The Lady Pirates (19-9, 3-0 in district) swept Plainview 25-11, 25-13, 25-17. The Lady Bulldogs (10-12) are 0-4 in the league.

Lubbock Monterey gets a four-set win over Lubbock High, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24. The Lady Plainsman (16-12) push their district record to 3-1. LHS (11-17) drops to 0-3 in 3-5A.

Non-district quick hits 

  • Bushland kept up the strong non-district play getting wins over West Plains and Midland Legacy during a triangular on Monday at Lubbock-Cooper High School. The Lady Falcons (27-4) swept West Plains 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, then Legacy 25-17, 25-18, 27-25. LillyAnn Shannon combined for 24 kills in both matches. Mackenzie Sims tallied a total of 43 assists.
  • Despite the loss to Bushland, West Plains (16-10) bounced back to beat Midland Legacy 25-10, 25-16, 25-19. CeCe Murillo had a double-double with 13 assists and 13 digs.
  • With an open date in the district schedule, Tascosa stepped out 3-5A play and picked up a home win against Pampa, 25-16, 25-22, 25-14. The Lady Rebels (21-7) saw Saphina Stanley go for 10 kills and teammate Bennet Berryman hit the floor for 20 digs.
  • Randall defended its home court beating Wichita Falls Memorial in four-sets, 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17. Havi Valdez paced the offense with 17 kills. Sidney Soria dished out 40 assists in the win.
  • Midland Christian held off Canyon in five-sets on Tuesday, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 18-25, 13-15. Despite the loss, Landri Jay was stellar defensively with 37 digs. Brooklyn Kinsey knocked down 16 kills.
  • Hereford dropped a pair of matches Tuesday. The Lady Whitefaces (17-13) fell to Frenship 25-13, 25-17, 25-17, and then to Lubbock-Cooper Liberty 25-19, 25-11, 25-14.
  • Dalhart knocked off Borger in a five-set non-district matchup, 11-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-13. Emily Gaines highlighted the Lady Wolves with 22 kills.
  • Sanford-Fritch pulled off a hard fought five-set win against River Road, 27-25, 25-23, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12. Kalynn Roberts led the Lady Eagles (16-4) will 17 kills. River Road’s Hailey Mayes had 19 digs and eight kills.
  • West Texas High earned a sweep against Fort Elliott 17-25, 25-16, 25-10, 24-26, 15-10. The Lady Comanches (14-8) saw Addison Lindley go for 22 assists and nine aces.
  • Highland Park downed Miami in straight sets 25-22, 25-10, 25-22. Tessica Deanda registered a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs. The Lady Hornets improve to 13-12.
  • Vega stayed hot sweeping Wildorado 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 pushing the Lady Longhorns record to 20-4 on the year. Jaz Martinez recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 18 digs and 13 kills.
  • San Jacinto Christian Academy opened TAPPS District 1-2A play by getting a sweep of crosstown rival Holy Cross Catholic Academy 25-9, 25-14, 25-13. The Lady Patriots are now 22-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
