Dumas gets past Randall in dramatic fashion
District 4-4A showed how good the league really was with all four playoff teams of Dumas, Randall, Pampa and West Plains all meeting up in the regional quarterfinals on Thursday and Friday.
District champion Dumas and Randall sure didn’t disappoint with the Demonettes coming away with two dramatic wins to push on toward the fourth round of the playoffs.
Dumas claimed went on the road and beat Randall with a 6-4 win in Game 1 on Thursday followed by a stunning 12-run bottom of the sixth inning at home to finish off the Lady Raiders with a 14-4 victory on Friday to advance.
In Thursday’s matchup at Randall, both teams traded big first innings leaving the two squads tied 4-4. Pitching and defense took over from that point until Dumas went on top for good thanks to two runs in the top of the third led by a Star Cotres solo shot to left field.
On Friday, Randall went on the road to Dumas and held a 4-2 advantage. That was until the wheels fell off for the Lady Raiders and the Demonettes bats caught fire. Dumas found a groove and chased starting pitcher Jazlynn Quigley who had been impressive to that point.
Two massive at-bats swung the momentum for Dumas in that monster sixth. The first came on a three-run blast from Madi Zubia that put the Demonettes up 6-4. The other was moments later Aaliyah Chavez hit a base-clearing double as Dumas was in total command up 12-4.
Zubia finished the second game 2-for-5 with four RBIs and the homer. Chairez also had four RBIs.
Dumas (32-6) now advances to the regional semifinals to matchup with Sanger (33-6) at a time in place to be determined.
Pampa decimates West Plains in regional quarterfinals
Great pitching, defense and just enough run support was the perfect recipe for the Pampa Lady Harvesters to get the sweep of rival West Plains during the Class 4A regional quarterfinal round on Thursday and Friday.
Pampa went to West Plains and nabbed a 4-1 victory and then back in Pampa on Friday sealed the sweep thanks to a 6-1 win.
The Lady Harvesters (20-12) are headed back to the regional semifinals for a second straight year where they await the Burkburnett-Snyder winner.
Pampa senior and team leader Kynleigh Kirby was on her game during both wins not allowing the Lady Wolves (20-17-1) any consistency at the plate over the two games.
Kirby ended the series throwing all 14 innings with 14 strikeouts. Those special K’s also helped Kirby to a significant milestone as she surpassed 750 strikeouts for her amazing career.
Kirby even helped her own cause with a two-run homer in Thursday’s win. On Friday, the runs came way of Kassie Arnzen who broke the game open with a three-run double in the third.
Class 3A
Bushland blasts Shallowater
Three big innings were more than enough to guide the Bushland Lady Falcons to a convincing 18-1 run-rule win over Shallowater during a one-game regional quarterfinal matchup at the Lady Bulldogs Softball Complex in Plainview on Friday.
The Lady Falcons (27-5-1) are now set for a massive showdown with No. 1-ranked Coahoma (27-0) in the regional semifinals at a time and place to be determined. The defending UIL Class 3A state champions have eliminated Bushland the past two years.
The Bushland bats went to work plating five in the second, and 12 runs between the fourth and fifth inning that did in the Fillies (27-10).
Not only did the Lady Falcons rack up 18 runs but pounded out 19 hits with 10 extra base-hits.
Addison Appier had a massive outing going 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs. Teammate Haylee Ruiz was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Tatum Ainsworth added a 2-for-4 day with a double and three runs driven in.
Senior Brylee Adams made quick of Shallowater in the circle tossing all five innings scattering two hits with 12 strikeouts.
River Road rolls over Lamesa
For the first time in seven years, the River Road Lady Wildcats are headed to the fourth round of the UIL Class 3A playoffs.
River Road put up the runs early putting away Lamesa 16-3 during a regional quarterfinal clash in Littlefield on Friday to keep their hot streak well intact.
The Lady Wildcats (24-9) advance to get the Iowa Park-Jacksboro winner in the regional semifinals.
River Road broke the contest wide open with a five-run second inning highlighted on two-run blasts from Ava Sharp and Carolyn Koval.
That was just the beginning for Sharp who was stellar throughout the win feasting on Lamesa pitching ending her day going 3-for-6 with three home runs and six RBIs.
Koval was also clutch going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles on top of her homer with three RBIs and catcher Sidnee Kane went deep two times finishing 3-for-4 with four runs driven in and scored three times.
