Valley survives Claude
The No. 1-ranked Valley Lady Patriots got everything they wanted and more from an upset-minded Claude Lady Stang team, but in the end were able to survive on the road thanks to a 54-46 victory in a District 2-1A matchup on Tuesday night.
In a game with a ton of momentum swings, Claude led 20-18 at the break. In the third quarter, the Lady Patriots started getting hot from the field behind Anna Ferrel and post Trinity Schlueter taking a commanding 38-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
However, the Lady Stangs fired back with a furious rally in the fourth quarter cutting the deficit at 41-40 with 3:30 to play in the contest. Valley was eventually able to hold off the Claude rally thanks to the free-throw shooting from point guard Jaydan Bagwell. Bagwell was clutch when it counted down the stretch knocking down 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Bagwell finished with 16 points with teammate Laney Edwards and Schlueter adding 12 apiece. Claude’s Layla Godfrey finished with a team-high 15.
Valley moves to 26-2 overall and stays in first place of District 2-1A at 4-0. Claude falls to 13-11 and 2-2.
Canadian upends Spearman
The Canadian Lady Cats sure made things interesting in District 1-3A by getting a big-time home win over favored Spearman 33-30 on Tuesday night.
The Lynxettes (18-5) suffer their first loss in district play dropping to 3-1 while Canadian (17-9) moves into a first-place tie with Spearman at 3-1 in the league.
Canadian built a 22-13 lead by halftime only to see the Lynxettes cut that margin to three by the end of the third quarter, but by the end of the game the Lady Cats were able to hold on.
Cazzlee Waite was strong for Canadian scoring a game-high 15 points. Teammate Kylie Cavalier added 14 and Spearman’s Braylen Lusby led Spearman with 14.
Tuesday’s top performers
Canyon’s Jaylee Moss poured in 14 points during the Lady Eagles blowout win over Dumas 63-17. Those 14 points put Moss over 1,000 points for her stellar career.
Natalia Tarango of Pringle-Morse achieved a special milestone on Tuesday night. Tarango tallied 14 points in a 53-35 victory against Adrian giving putting her over 1,000 career points for her career.
Perryton pulled off a huge upset of Hereford 44-42 on Tuesday night. Malee Vela was a big reason why scoring 22 points to lift the Rangerettes.
Gruver’s Erin Merkel had a huge outing posting a career-high 27 points during the Lady Hounds 50-33 victory against Sunray.
Daneja Agu-White of West Plains scored a team-high 16 as the Lady Wolves earned a season sweep of Pampa with a 52-41 win on Tuesday.
Kate Shaw of Clarendon poured in 20 points that was more than enough in the Lady Broncos 83-19 victory against Shamrock.
Wheeler’s Holden Holwick did her job and then some dropping in 24 points in the Lady Mustangs victory over Memphis.
Texline’s Jada Clay kept the Texline Lady Tornadoes red hot by scoring 19 points in a win over rival Wildorado 61-39 at home on Tuesday. The victory puts Texline (19-6) all alone in first place of District 3-1A at 3-0.
Brenna Francis tallied 24 points for Silverton in a 55-39 win against White Deer.
