Tascosa dominates Palo Duro
Tascosa’s girls guaranteed themselves sole possession of the 2-5A lead through at least next Tuesday, as they dominated in the second half to rout Palo Duro 91-45.
The Lady Rebels (20-4, 3-0) only trailed briefly by a point in the first quarter and dominated after that. They built their lead to as many as 19 in the second quarter, as Palo Duro (14-12, 0-2) was unable to get any closer than 13 the rest of the way.
The third quarter was a harbinger of even rougher times for the Lady Dons, as Tascosa outscored them 25-8 to take a 66-34 lead and make the outcome a formality. Niz’kiyah Fisher and Avery Carter both had eight points in the third quarter for Tascosa.
However, Tryssa Dowd led five Lady Rebels in double figures with 24 points. LaKenzee Dickson had 15, Carter added 14 and Fisher and Aniyah Brackens both had 13.
Erin Mims led Palo Duro with 11 points and Alana Davis and Aubri McClain both had 10.
Stratford takes down Gruver
It was a monumental night for the Stratford Lady Elks as they ended a long losing skid to the Gruver Lady Hounds getting a lopsided 42-18 win in Stratford on Friday night.
It’s Stratford’s first win over Gruver since 2018. It’s also Gruver’s first district loss since that same year.
The Lady Elks stay atop the District 1-2A standings with the win moving to 3-0 in district and 16-6 overall. Gruver, the state runner-up last season, falls to 2-1 in the league and 10-14 overall.
Addison Bell was superb in the victory for the Lady Elks scoring a game-high 12 points with teammate Makenzie Bell adding nine.
Valley gets past Silverton
In the first of two meetings between the top two teams out of District 2-1A, the No. 1-ranked Valley Lady Patriots held off a scrappy Silverton team at home to claim a key 55-47 win on Friday night.
The victory puts Valley (25-2) all alone in first place of the district at 3-0 while Silverton falls to 2-1 in the league and 15-4 overall.
The Lady Patriots put the game away with a huge third quarter. After a back-and-forth first two quarters where Valley led 29-26 at halftime, the Lady Patriots took control by outscoring the Lady Owls 15-3 in the third frame to go up 44-29.
Valley’s Reese Cruse scored a team-high 18 points followed by Anna Ferrel’s 15. Maddie Francis led Silverton with 17.
Friday’s top performers
Bushland’s Brooklyn Boyett poured in a career-high 34 points to lead the Lady Falcons to a 52-40 home victory against River Road.
Miami’s Mercedes Ewing didn’t miss leading the Lady Warriors past Lefors 59-27. Ewing shot lights out in the victory putting up a game-high 33 points.
Randall’s Sadie Sanchez and Kennah Thomas each went for 22 points during the Lady Raiders 80-48 win over Perryton at home on Friday. Sanchez also added eight assists. The Lady Raiders (20-6) stay unbeaten in District 4-4A at 6-0.
Spearman’s Braylen Lusby and Vanelli Delgado combined for 25 points to lift the Lynxettes to a 48-22 win over Dalhart. Lusby scored a team-high 13 followed by Delgado’s 12. The Lynxettes improve to 18-4 overall and 3-0 in District 1-3A.
Brooklyn Birkenfeld of Nazareth had a big night going for 26 points during the Swiftettes 67-11 blowout win over Kress.
Clarendon stayed hot by dismantling Memphis 73-9 on Friday night. Berkley Moore was a big reason why scoring a game-high 20 points to push the Lady Broncos (24-1) to a perfect 3-0 mark in District 2-2A.
The McLean duo of Kasidy Russell and Anayah Salinas combined for 52 points as the Lady Tigers rolled over Kelton 74-20. Both Russell and Salinas tallied 26 points apiece.
Panhandle standout Avery Cathey continued her great season with a 21-point outing to push the Ettes past Vega on the road 58-50.
