During the Bobcats lopsided 28-7 victory over previously unbeaten New Home last week in the area round, The Leopards were dealt a heavy dose of Mendoza. Mendoza dealt out the punishment with his downhill style of running toting the ball 30 times for 162 yards eventually wearing down New Home.

On the season, the junior has chewed up 873 yards on 123 carries with three rushing touchdowns and snagged 29 receptions for 319 yards with five more TDs.

Coach Wes Boatmun: “Getting to the third round isn’t easy to do. This program hasn’t done it since 2011. I think it’s exciting and it gives you a measure of doing things the right way. We are thrilled to play another week but still hungry to keep going. Arnold is such a physical player. In junior high we could give him the ball and he could take it to the house on almost every play. He had an adjustment to make when he got to high school but now, he’s learning the game and he’s very strong. He’s quiet but let’s his play do the talking. He’s just a very special player for us.”

Mendoza: “It meant a lot to beat New Home. Those guys eliminated us last year, so I’m glad we were able to get them this year. I feel I’ve improved a lot on both sides of the ball. I’m seeing the holes a lot better now and understanding the playbook. I just love to run and make plays for my team. I can’t do it though without the offensive line. Those guys open the holes for me. We just want to keep going and see how far we can get.”
