Amarillo wins fourth straight 3-5A title 

Amarillo High took care of business on Saturday with another convincing victory over arch-rival Tascosa by taking the season series from the Lady Rebels with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-17, sweep on Saturday afternoon.

The tradition-rich Lady Sandies volleyball program wins its fourth straight District 3-5A championship moving to a perfect 7-0 in the league while pushing their district win streak to 37 straight games. Tascosa (27-14) is still locked in at second place finishing the regular season at 6-2.

AHS led from start to finish over the Lady Rebels with junior outside hitter Sienna Cavalier leading the way with 14 digs and 12 kills to nab a double-double. Blair Pennington controlled the offense with 28 assists, adding eight digs and Ryan Pennington played solid on the front row with eight kills.

Tascosa’s Kassidy Langeland finished with 24 digs. Teammate Meredith Sanning had 14 assists.

Plainview beats Palo Duro in five-sets

Palo Duro suffered a tough loss to Plainview in a crucial match on Saturday with playoff implications as the Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Lady Dons in five-sets, 25-22, 25-13, 7-25, 23-25, 15-8.

The victory was crucial for Plainview (17-16-1) which pulls into a third-place tie with Caprock (18-16) at 2-4 in the District 3-5A race. With one game left, Palo Duro (17-16-1), is now 1-5 in district and is currently on the outside looking in at the postseason. The Lady Dons will need to beat Caprock on Tuesday to give themselves a chance to get in the playoffs.

Despite the heartbreaking loss on Saturday, Erin Mims, Syvihanna Sutton and Aniyah Burley played outstanding for Palo Duro with all three walking away with double-doubles. Mims had 20 digs with a team-high 18 kills. Sutton went for 17 digs and 17 kills and Burley finished with a team-high 24 digs with 19 assists.

District 4-4A

Canyon clinches final playoff spot out of 4-4A

Canyon gained a measure of revenge from a loss to Pampa earlier in the year with a focused performance at home on Saturday to grab a sweep of the Lady Harvesters, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

This win puts Canyon (20-20) in the Class 4A playoffs as the fourth and final team out of 4-4A with a 7-6 mark. Pampa drops to 19-18 overall and 5-8 in the league.

Landri Jay was superb on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Jay headed up Lady Eagles dishing out 15 assists. On the defensive side, Jay hit the floor for 20 digs giving her a double-double. Sydnee Winfrey, Brooklyn Kinsey and Isabel Hunt did their job at the net combining for 22 kills. Winfrey stacked up eight kills followed by Kinsey and Hunt with seven and Alainna Bellino chipped in with 12 assists.

Randall, West Plains stay tied atop 4-4A

The Randall Lady Raiders and West Plains Lady Wolves remain tied atop the District 4-4A standings after both teams cruised to wins on Saturday.

West Plains had no issues taking down struggling Perryton, 25-6, 25-9, 25-6, while Randall made it a season sweep of Hereford 25-16, 25-20, 25-15.

Randall improves to 36-4 overall with the Lady Wolves moving to 36-7. Both teams will head into Tuesday’s regular season finale tied for the district lead at 12-1. Even with the loss, Hereford (18-17) is locked in as the third-place team out of the district at 9-4.

Randall setter Sidney Soria did what she does best against the Lady Whitefaces passing around 37 assists and added 12 digs for a double-double. Jordyn Gove powered down 16 kills and Kenna Miller went for 12 digs.

Brooklyn Garcia paced the Lady Wolves against Perryton with 11 kills with McCall Sims playing solid defense making 13 digs.

District 1-3A

Bushland’s dynasty continues 

Bushland’s magnificent volleyball dynasty carried strong on Saturday with the traditional power clinching their unprecedented 17th straight district championship.

The Lady Falcons made very quick work of Dimmitt, 25-2, 25-6, 25-1, to accomplish the historic feat improving to 7-0 in District 1-3A. Bushland (36-6) made more history on Saturday by extending its unbelievable league win streak to 88 straight games dating back to 2011.

Bella Babbitt and Lilyann Shannon combined for 19 kills against Dimmitt. Avery Ramos had 14 digs and Abby Howell served up 10 aces.

Friona clinches second place in 1-3A

The Friona Squaws went on the road on Saturday and came away with a four-set victory against rival River Road, 15-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-9.

With the win, the Squaws (30-9) earn their 30th win of the year and finish District 1-3A at 6-2 to claim the second-place spot behind Bushland. River Road (16-14) stays in third place at 3-4.

Jacee Burney had nine kills with seven digs for Friona. Teammate Aubree Bunker added 10 kills and Ivory Shelby shoveled out 19 assists.

River Road’s Reece DeHart played exceptional once again with 22 assists and 18 digs for a double-double. DeHart also served extremely well with three aces.

District 1-2A

Vega levels Memphis 

Vega did what it was supposed to do by going to Memphis and getting a 25-12, 25-10, 25-10, sweep on Saturday.

The Lady Longhorns (17-14) close out their regular season schedule at 4-4 and are currently in third place in District 1-2A. Memphis drops to 5-14, 0-7.

Vega’s Jaz Martinez put together a double-double effort with 10 kills and 10 assists and was great on the service line with five aces. Addison Bidegain chipped in with 16 assists with an impressive six aces.

Sanford-Fritch stays hot

The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles keep on rolling through District 1-2A by gaining another win handling Highland Park in four-sets, 25-17, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15.

The Lady Eagles remain perfect in 1-2A at 7-0 and move to 26-6 overall. Highland Park (11-23) is currently in fourth place out of the district at 3-4.

Emma Williams and Avery Conner did the big hitting with a combined 27 kills. Kinley Roberts did the passing with 27 assists. The Lady Hornets were led by Tessica Deanda’s 13 assists and nine kills.

District 1-1A

Miami secures second place 

Thanks to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-19, sweep on Saturday of Fort Elliott, the Miami Lady Warriors clinched outright second place of District 1-1A.

Miami’s Mercedes Ewing had a very good game against the Lady Cougars with 20 kills and 16 digs for a double-double, adding four blocks. Cheylee Tollison put together a double-double of her own with 12 digs and 12 kills to go with two blocks and Bentley Brooks handed out 29 assists.

Miami is now 19-9 overall and 3-2 in district. Fort Elliott (13-13) has secured the third and final playoff spot out of the league at 2-4.
