Will Flaming and Oliver Parsons, Amarillo High, QB-WR
The dynamic duo over quarterback Will Flaming and Oliver Parsons were unstoppable leading Amarillo High to a 66-14 throttling of Lubbock Coronado from the first play of the game to the end on Thursday. Flaming and Parsons connected on a 63-yard pitch and catch on the first play of the game and kept the momentum going from there. Flaming was outstanding going 14-of-19 for 341 yards with all four touchdown tosses going to Parsons. The sophomore receiver had a career night snagging six catches for 241 yards with those four TD receptions.
Kyler Read, Dalhart, QB, Jr.
Read led Dalhart to its biggest win to date downing Shallowater at home 21-14. Read chewed up the Mustangs defense rushing for 117 yards on 32 carries and threw for 224 yards on 12-of-26 passing for three touchdowns. But it was the final quarter where Read led an improbable 11:52 minute drive on 23 plays that took the entire fourth quarter behind a heavy dose of the junior dual-threat quarterback running the ball that earned the win for the Golden Wolves.
Christian McGuire, Canyon, RB-DB, Sr.
Canyon gave Hereford a constant dose of a running attack the Whitefaces just couldn’t handle on the way to a convincing 30-13 victory. The Eagles ate up Hereford for 302 yards on the ground with McGuire ran for 55 of those yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns and had 28 yards receiving. The senior also made five tackles with a pass breakup on defense.
Kade Hamby, West Texas High, RB-WR, Sr.
Hamby had a huge part in West Texas High’s furious come-from-behind 58-54 wild win at Highland Park on Friday. The Comanches dominated the ground game stacking up 331 rushing yards in the victory. Hamby did his part and then some toting the ball 14 times for a team-high 142 yards with a touchdown.
Da’Reon Mathis, Childress, RB, Sr.
The speedy senior had a breakout night for Childress as the Bobcats earned their first District 3-3A Division II win by beating Tulia 56-6. Mathis carried the load for the offense rushing for a game-high 162 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.
Julio Valdez, Stratford, WR-LB, Jr.
Valdez put his stamp on Stratford’s huge 34-24 win at Panhandle while helping keep his Elks unbeaten at 7-0 on the year. Valdez was a mismatch for the Panthers defense and a menace for the Panhandle offense. Valdez was the key for the Stratford offense snagging six catches for 108 yards with a touchdown and added 135 yards on the ground that included a 95-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. On defense, the linebacker went for 10 tackles, three for a loss with a sack.
Miguel Lopez, Bovina, WR-K, Sr.
Lopez nailed a game-winning 20-yard field goal with four seconds left that lifted Bovina to a thrilling 29-26 over Crosbyton to give the Mustangs their first district win. On top of his heroic kick, Lopez was lethal at receiver making six catches for 105 yards with a pair of TDs.
Creed Newkirk, Wheeler, QB, Soph.
Newkirk had his best game of the year at just the right time helping lead Wheeler to a 34-26 win over arch-rival Shamrock in the 77th installment of the “War for Wheeler County”. The dual-threat QB scampered for 134 yards on 14 carries including a 56-yard touchdown and threw for 50 yards.
Kaden Crooks, Canadian, RB, Jr.
The bruising Canadian running back had his best game of the season and kept No. 2 Canadian unbeaten at 7-0 thanks to a 62-13 rout over Spearman. Crooks, a powerful downhill runner, gave the Lynx fits toting the ball only 10 times for a season-high 210 yards with two scores.
Tryston Sanchez, Randall, QB, Sr.
Randall’s senior quarterback used his feet and his arm to disable Pampa. During the Raiders 49-7 win, Sanchez used his speed to rush for 89 yards with two touchdowns on 10 carries, and then threw for 164 yards with another score.
