Julian Cervantes, Perryton, Sr.
After missing last week with an injury, Cervantes made his presence felt in a furious way in Perryton’s District 2-4A Division II 41-18 win over Levelland. Cervantes showed he can truly play anywhere on the field as he caught seven passes for 226 yards with two scores, ran the ball seven times for 61 yards for a touchdown and was 2-for-3 passing for 37 yards with another TD. Cervantes ended the night totaling 324 yards of offense with four touchdowns.
Bryce Braden, Stratford, QB-LB, Jr.
Braden was on another level during Stratford’s 38-7 victory at Farwell. Offensively, the Steers had a hard time stopping the physical quarterback. On the ground, Braden ran through Farwell for 118 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns. He then threw for 168 yards on 12-of-16 passing for 168 yards and defensively, made a game-high 20 tackles with two sacks.
Broxton Robinson, Panhandle, QB, Soph.
Robinson’s MVP season continued in the 1-2A Division I opener at Highland Park on Friday. The dual-threat quarterback torched the Hornets in a 72-32 win by using his speed to go for an impressive 251 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns. The sophomore went 12-of-16 for 202 yards with four more scores to total 453 yards of offense and seven combined TDs.
Lyric Smith, Clarendon, QB-RB, Sr.
Smith had no problem having to move to the quarterback position to replace an injured Harrison Howard. Smith seemed to thrive with the ball in his hand on almost every play in a 32-0 shutout of Wheeler as the senior went 13-of-25 for 140 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns. He then blazed past the Wheeler defense with his feet for 241 yards on 18 touches with two more TDs.
Crockett Henry, West Plains, LB, Sr.
West Plains reputation is its offense and while that side of the ball had another outstanding showing during the Wolves’ 48-23 blowout win over Seminole, the defense also did their part. Henry was a huge reason for defenses big night as the senior linebacker was in on 13 tackles, nine of those solo with a sack.
Keaton Fellers, West Texas High, QB, Jr.
Fellers was in control of the West Texas High offense making life miserable for Sanford-Fritch by going 9-of-15 for 125 yard and piling up 83 rushing yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns during the Comanches 40-7 District 1-2A Division I victory.
Jaxon Fetsch, Bushland, LB, Sr.
Bushland showed how strong they were by going on the road and dominating Muleshoe 56-26 playing fantastic in all three phases on the field. The defense was particularly spectacular holding down a Mules’ offense that was averaging close to 50 points a game coming in. Fetsch was flying all over the field making plays against the Muleshoe offense with nine tackles, two for a loss, and caused a fumble.
Keima’j Barnes & Amariyea James, Palo Duro, RB
Palo Duro’s dynamic run combo of James and Barnes electrified the fans in a big Dons victory against Lubbock High, 58-24. James had the biggest game of the two with 165 yards on 16 carries with a pair of scores, while Barnes chipped in with 126 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns of his own.
Cade and Carson Seaman, Friona, QB-RB
The twin brother combination helped a Chieftain team step up and overcome adversity with a 55-8 win at Tulia on Friday. After head coach Jimmy Arias resigned on Friday morning, the Seaman twins became leaders for interim head coach Elias Carrillo, helping Carrillo earn his first victory. Carson, the quarterback, went 5-of-10 passing for 84 yards with two touchdowns, and ran for 159 yards with three more TDs. Cade, the dynamic running back, toted the rock 14 times for 132 yards with a touchdown.
Jose Silerio, Vega, RB, Sr.
Silerio did all he could to help the Longhorns snap a nasty five-game losing skid and continue the Oldham County domination with a 42-8 win over rival Boys Ranch. Silerio sliced and diced the Roughrider defense for 125 yards with a touchdown and threw for 32 yards.
