Amarillo High handles Tascosa in rivalry matchup
Amarillo High took over sole control of first place in District 3-5A by handling Tascosa from start to finish thanks to a convincing 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 sweep at a very electric THS Activity Center on Tuesday night.
The energy was definitely at a fever pitch between the two student sections and first place was on the line. AHS runs its District 3-5A win streak to an eye-opening 32 straight games as the Lady Sandies move to a perfect 3-0 in the league and 29-5 overall. The Lady Rebels suffer their first district loss dropping to 3-1 and 24-13.
“It was an awesome atmosphere,” AHS head coach Mike Moffitt said. “We were both undefeated in district coming in and you could see that coming. Tascosa is playing great. We’ve been playing great, and we were able to execute. We just wanted to get away from Tascosa with a win and we did that.”
The Lady Sandies opened up hot from the start taking a 10-3 first set lead and never looking back. After going back and forth in the second set, AHS pulled away for the 25-17 victory and in the third set, both teams battled for points. The Lady Rebels worked to force a fourth set going up 25-23 before the Lady Sandies reeled off the final three points to close out the sweep.
“We executed really well all night,” Moffitt said. “In the third set, I thought they passed really well, and we didn’t serve it very well. But the serve and pass game went our way the first two sets and that made it for a nice result.”
“That was one of Sienna’s more mature matches,” Moffitt said. “She had a lot of big energy in a big atmosphere. She wanted it but didn’t try to do too much. This was big growing moment for her as a junior and that’s huge for her to execute.”
Blair Pennington was equally impressive for AHS with a double-double of her own running a great offense with 35 assists and knocking down 10 kills. Bird Moffitt finished with nine digs and Claire Fansler had three blocks.
Tascosa’s Meredith Sanning led the team with 20 assists. Kassidy Langeland and Bennet Berryman totaled 23 digs. Langeland had a team-high 12 with Berryman going for 11.
District 4-4A
Canyon gets big win over Dumas
Canyon halted a three-game losing streak in a big way with a sweep of Dumas to open up the second half of District 4-4A action.
The Lady Eagles took care of business by downing the Demonettes 25-12, 25-16, 25-17.
With the win, Canyon (17-18) takes over sole possession of fourth place at 4-4. The Demonettes fall a game back of the Lady Eagles at 3-5 in district and 18-21 overall.
Sydnee Winfrey and Brooklyn Kinsey delivered in the victory for Canyon. Both played significant roles. Winfrey was strong at the net with a team-high 13 kills and five blocks. Kinsey showed her versatility with nine digs, eight kills and two aces. Teammate Alainna Bellino handed out 18 assists and Landri Jay registered a team-high 15 digs with two aces.
Dumas’ Kennedy Clements finished with seven kills. Ashley Suggs led the team with 17 digs and Sophie Clements had nine assists and six kills.
West Plains keeps pace with rival Randall
West Plains made quick work of the Pampa Lady Harvesters at home on Tuesday night by nabbing a 25-18, 25-14, 25-11, victory.
McCall Sims had a strong outing for the Lady Wolves going for 25 digs. Jayli Franklin also played a key role with 12 kills and had an outstanding night serving up six aces. Aaniyah Kitchens sent home eight kills with three blocks and AJ Norman totaled 15 digs and three aces.
Pampa’s Maecie Hawthorne did earn a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs.
West Plains (31-7 overall) stays a game back of Randall (8-0 in district) in the 4-4A race at 7-1. Pampa (17-15) drops a game behind Canyon (4-4 in district) for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Randall wins again
The No. 1-ranked Randall Lady Raiders opened the second half of District 4-4A up breezing past Borger thanks to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-12, at home on Tuesday night.
The Lady Raiders (32-3) are now a perfect 8-0 in district while pushing that awe-inspiring win streak to 24 straight games dating back to last year. Borger falls to 1-7 in the league and 15-16 overall.
Randall’s standout outside hitter Jordyn Gove did what she does best by landing 20 kills with 14 digs for a double-double. Gove added a pair of blocks and aces. Brooke Henderson went for nine kills with eight blocks, Kandree Perez had seven kills with three blocks and three digs while teammate Sidney Soria ran the offense with 41 assists to go with six digs.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Isabella Pena’s nine assists and four digs. Teammate Jordyn Petitt had four kills with four digs and Emilee Bridges tallied three kills, three blocks with two digs.
Hereford hustles past Perryton
After a strong first half of district, Hereford made sure to get the second half off on the right start by sweeping Perryton at home, 25-10, 25-5, 25-10, on Tuesday night.
Kyndal Blair was amazing from the service line with a game-high seven aces. Blair also led the way pounding down 21 kills to outmatch the Rangerette defense. London Baker made most of those passes to Blair finishing with 28 assists and Esteffani Solozano added seven digs.
Hereford (15-16 overall) stays all alone in third place at 6-2, trailing West Plains (7-1) by a game out of second. Perryton drops to 2-21-2 overall and 0-8 in the league.
District 1-3A
Bushland blasts Dimmitt
The Bushland Lady Falcons stayed undefeated in District 1-3A by easing past Dimmitt with a 25-2, 25-3, 25-8, sweep on Tuesday.
Bushland’s Abby Howell and LillyAnn Shanon each had 10 kills. Mackenzie Sims finished with 27 assists and eight aces and Avery Ramos hit the floor for 10 digs.
Bushland is now 32-6 overall and 3-0 in district. The Lady Falcons also push their incredible district win streak to 83 straight games dating back to 2011. Dimmitt’s struggles continue falling to 1-25 overall and 0-3.
Friona sweeps River Road
The Friona Squaws have rebounded nicely after a district opening loss to Bushland.
Friona won its third straight league win at home on Tuesday by roughing up River Road in a three-set sweep, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19.
The Squaws stay a game back of Bushland at 3-1 in District 1-3A and 25-8 overall. The Lady Wildcats drop to 1-2 in the league and 14-12 overall.
Aubree Bunker Had six kills with three aces. Jacee Burney put up eight assists with four kills, and Kitzy Welch was an enforcer at the net with six blocks.
In defeat, River Road’s Reese DeHart put together a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs. Ava Sharp led the team with 12 kills.
District 1-2A
Deanda leads Highland Park to much needed W
Highland Park put a stop to a two-game losing streak with a clutch 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, three-set sweep of West Texas High on Tuesday night.
The Lady Hornets (10-19 overall) jump to 2-2 in District 1-2A while West Texas High (12-18) falls to 2-2.
Tessica Deanda had a big night with 13 kills, 12 digs and 10 assists for a rare triple-double. McKinli Bufkin served extremely well with nine aces and added 11 assists.
Sanford-Fritch stays hot
The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles kept control of first place in District 1-2A with a mauling of Memphis 25-19, 25-16, 25-17, on Tuesday night.
Avery Conner registered a team-high 15 kills with two blocks. Teammate Emma Watson had nine kills with a block and Kinley Roberts did a great job leading the Lady Eagles offense with 19 assists.
Sanford-Fritch (23-6) stays all alone in first place of the district at 4-0. Memphis moves to 5-11 overall and 0-4 in the league.
District 1-1A
Miami finds district win column
Miami rebounded nicely after falling to Wildorado on Saturday by bouncing back against Fort Elliott thanks to a three-set sweep, 25-12, 25-9, 25-17, on Tuesday night.
Bentley Brooks was tremendous setting the offense for the Lady Warriors passing out 32 assists and did her job on defense with 14 digs finishing with a double-double. Mercedes Ewing was strong at the net with a game-high 20 kills, adding four aces with two blocks and Cheyenne Tollison went for 10 digs and seven kills.
Miami is now at 1-1 in District 1-1A and 17-8 overall. Fort Elliott falls to 12-11 overall and 1-2 in district.
