The Lady Raiders (19-2 overall) had beaten the rival Lady Sandies back-to-back on Friday and Saturday on their way to claiming the Grandbury Tournament championship and were seemingly in control to a third straight win over AHS (15-3) on Tuesday.
Randall came out fast by dominating the first two sets 25-21, 25-17. AHS rallied in the third holding off a comeback from the Lady Raiders to take the third set 25-23. AHS carried that momentum into the fourth set by forcing a decisive game five with a 25-17 victory. The Lady Sandies once again had to dig deep in the fifth set. Randall took the momentum going up 13-9. However, behind junior Sienna Cavalier, AHS reeled off five straight points to go up 14-13. The two teams then traded points till the match was tied 17-17. That’s when Lady Sandie sophomore Harlee Karrh boomed back-to-back kills that the Randall defense couldn’t handle giving AHS the win 19-17 to make the thrilling comeback complete.
“Very little changed on our end,” AHS head coach Mike Moffitt said. “We kept saying to the players that the scout is good, and the plan is good. We made a couple small changes that helped but strategically we kept the same plan and the players just fought. We were in trouble again in the fifth set and we couldn’t give them anymore. We knew we had to go and we responded and trusted each other. They did get us twice in the tournament over the weekend and that was a bummer. But I told the players let’s go get them during this game that was on the schedule. That’s a five-gamer and let’s go get it and we did.”
Cavalier finished with a team-high 18 kills with 16 digs for a double-double performance. Teammate Grace Hughes added 15 kills and Blair Pennington dished out 49 assists.
Despite the loss, Randall setter Sidney Soria was all over the court dishing out 50 assists, hitting the floor for 14 digs and racked up nine kills. Teammate Jordyn Gove was also spectacular going for 31 kills and 20 digs for a double-double.
Tascosa downs Hereford
The Tascosa Lady Rebels went on the road and picked up a win against Hereford in a very good non-district matchup on Tuesday night.
The Lady Rebels split the first two sets but were able to pull away by getting a 25-12, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, victory.
Saphina Stanley had a team-high 16 kills followed by teammate Gabbie Mason with eight. Meredith Sanning tallied 45 assists and Kassidy Langeland hit the floor for an eye-opening 31 digs. London Baker led the Lady Whitefaces with 25 assists and 11 kills.
West Plains sweeps Midland High
West Plains kept its momentum rolling from winning the Graham Tournament over the weekend by sweeping Midland High at home on Tuesday by a 25-20, 25-12, 25-22, count.
The Lady Wolves are off to a great start to the season with a 16-4 record.
Adyson Simmons, Piper Patterson, Jayli Franklin and Kynzie Ward all had six kills. Zenaida Murrillo tacked on a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs, and teammate McCall Sims added 16 digs.
Dumas beats Lubbock Coronado
After falling to Bushland earlier Tuesday night, the Dumas Demonettes were able to rebound and take down Lubbock Coronado 25-22, 25-21, 25-22, at Bushland High School on Tuesday.
The Demonettes move their record to 11-11 overall.
Kennedy Clements had a strong outing for Dumas with nine kills. Gabi Alvarez had a team-high 11 assists and Ashley Suggs hit the floor for 16 digs.
Canyon, Borger get wins
The Canyon Lady Eagles and the Borger Lady Bulldogs were able to nab wins at Palo Duro on Tuesday night.
The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Dons 25-22, 25-17, 25-14. Isabel Hunt led the way with 11 kills followed by Laney Jones’ eight kills. Landri Jay had 14 digs with three aces and teammate Alainna Bellina dished out 17 assists. Canyon improves to 10-10 on the year.
Borger also pulled out a victory over Palo Duro on Tuesday earlier in the night with a sweep of 25-23, 27-25, 26-24.
Adraya Loftis knocked down 10 kills with four blocks and four aces. Teammate Emilee Bridges added six blocks with six digs and Isabella Pena had 18 assists.
River Road sweeps Perryton
River Road had no problems with Perryton in a non-district matchup on Tuesday getting a 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 sweep.
Reese DeHart had a big night for the Lady Wildcats racking up 23 assists with five digs and three aces. Ava Sharp was also on her game with 15 digs and five kills as Annie Winton tallied 18 digs.
River Road improves to 6-5 on the year.
Dalhart takes down Highland Park
Dalhart had a very strong effort of their own by grabbing a sweep of Highland Park, 25-5, 25-20, 25-11, on Tuesday.
The Lady Golden Wolves are now 10-4 overall after the victory.
Emily Gaines led the team with eight kills followed by Kammi Maddox with six kills and six aces. Teammate Eli Bezner dished out 15 assists.
