Kami Drinnon, Vega track and field, Sr.

On the track: Vega’s Kami Drinnon was on fire during last week’s District 3-2A/ 4-2A Area Track and Field meet in Panhandle. The senior standout ended her day qualifying for the Region I-2A meet in five different events. Drinnon racked up 41 points on her own for the Lady Longhorns and won three gold medals. Drinnon won the 100-meter hurdles with a new season best 15.93. She then won the long jump (17-feet-4 1/4 inches) and set a new PR in the triple jump with a leap of 36-feet-1 inch. Drinnon also took a silver in the 100-meter dash (12.70) and won bronze as part of the sprint relay.

Coach Jason Porton: “Kami had a fantastic area meet in Panhandle. She had a couple of new personal records, and she just continues to get better and better every day. She goes into a meet with a new goal each time and always seems to meet those goals. I’m just so proud of her and her work ethic is the best I’ve ever seen. You see why it pays off each and every week. She is an unbelievable young person anyone would want their daughter to grow up and be like.”

Drinnon “The past week I was able to get a personal-record in the triple jump and in the long jump I went over 17-feet again which I was really happy with. I finally got under 16 seconds in the 100 hurdles, so my goal continues to just get better and better. This is my first year to run the 100-meter dash and I love doing it. It has really tested me. I can’t thank my coaches enough for helping me day in and day out. They really help me put in the work. We’re always the last ones to leave the track and the just really care and do so much for me. That’s how Vega is and I love being a part of this school and the community.”
