District softball roundup: Canyon routes Randall, Pampa wins, Bushland clinches share of district title

Canyon run-rules Randall 

The Canyon Lady Eagles kept their winning ways going while staying atop the District 4-4A standings by getting a clutch 13-3 run-rule win over rival Randall at home on Friday afternoon.

Canyon moves to 13-14 overall but more importantly the Lady Eagles stay tied with Pampa (18-4) at 10-2 in district. Canyon visits Pampa with first place on the line at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Randall (21-11) falls into third place with the loss at 9-3.

The Lady Eagles didn’t waste any time jumping on Randall scoring eight runs in the first three innings to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Canyon then delivered the final blow to the Lady Raiders with a five-run sixth inning to get the run-rule. Mikaila Gilliland went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Amber Beroni went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Kenah Cox had a pair of RBIs on a 2-for-3 day including a double. In the circle, Kylie Knowles did her job going all six innings without allowing an earned run with 10 strikeouts.

Pampa beats Borger 

Pampa earned a big win over Borger to stay in the district race thanks to an 8-2 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Harvesters broke open a tie game thanks to a five-run bottom of the third highlighted by a string of RBI singles to go up 6-1. That was more than enough for Kynleigh Kirby who tossed a complete game giving up four hits, an earned run with seven K’s. Kirby was also 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs. Hallie Hawthorne added an RBI as did her sister Maecie.

Pampa (18-14) stays tied with Canyon at the top of District 4-4A at 10-2. The Lady Harvesters will host the Lady Eagles (13-14) with first place on the line at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

West Plains downs Hereford 

The West Plains Lady Wolves completed the season sweep of Hereford in convincing fashion thanks to an 11-1 victory at home on Friday afternoon.

Desi Hernandez highlighted the afternoon for West Plains by blistering Lady Whiteface pitching going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Lauren Egger was also superb going 3-for-4 including a triple and four RBIs. Jaylen Kaps dominated in the circle to earn the victory by tossing all five innings allowing only three hits without giving up a run with eight strikeouts. Kaps, a freshman, also celebrated a milestone racking up over 200 strikeouts on the season.

The Lady Wolves improve to 3-9 in district and 12-17-1 overall. Hereford falls to 10-17, 2-10.

Dumas blanks Perryton 

The Dumas Demonettes had no issue with Perryton by getting a 22-0 win on Friday.

Dumas (23-7) is now 8-4 in District 4-4A sitting two games ahead of Borger (14-16-1, 6-6) for the fourth and final playoff spot with two games remaining.

Melaney Granados had a great day with a double, homer, totaling five RBIs. Cami Velasquez went a perfect 3-for-3 including a double and three RBIs.

District 3-5A

Caprock gets past Plainview

The Caprock Lady Longhorns finished off a strong week by earning a 9-4 victory over Plainview in a District 3-5A clash on Friday.

The Lady Longhorns improve to 5-2 in the league and 14-7-1 overall. Plainview drops to 8-21, 3-3.

Kiera Chavez picked up the win throwin a complete game giving up four runs with five K’s. The offense came in the form of Jaylen Zuniga who homered, added a double for a total of two RBIs. Annalyse Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

In the other 3-5A game on Friday, Tascosa beat Palo Duro, 32-2.

District 1-3A

Bushland soars past River Road

Bushland completed the season sweep while clinching at least a share of the District 1-3A championship by run-ruling River Road 13-2 at home on Friday afternoon.

Chloe Cochran feasted on Lady Wildcat pitching finishing the game with a career performance. Cochran showed very timely hitting crushing three home runs for a total of four RBIs. Cochran was one of five Lady Falcons to homer in the win. Tatum Ainsworth, Abby Howell, Jada Permenter and Kylee Jordan also went deep. Brylee Adams did what she does best in the circle throwing five shutout innings with nine strikeouts.

Bushland stays perfect in District 1-3A at 8-0 while moving to 23-6 overall. River Road falls to 17-10, 6-2. In the other district game on Friday, Dalhart downed Canadian, 7-2.
