Lady Sandies destroy Andress
The Amarillo High Lady Sandies made sure that last year’s surprisingly early playoff exit was a fluke this year.
Amarillo High left little doubt against El Paso Andress, even with a scoreless stretch which took up the first half of the second quarter. The No. 5 Lady Sandies took off from there to rout Andress 64-21 at Odessa High, erasing the sour taste of last season’s area round overtime loss to Canutillo.
This puts Amarillo High (29-5) in the region quarterfinals next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against No. 7 Lubbock Cooper (29-4) at Dimmitt. It will be the eighth time in the last nine years the Lady Sandies have advanced at least as far as the region quarters.
Amarillo High was rarely in trouble against Andress (25-7), taking a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. After a dry stretch offensively, the Lady Sandies caught fire, hitting four 3-pointers, two of them by Lacey Rice, who scored all of her game-high 16 points in the first half, as Amarillo High led 35-8 at halftime.
The Lady Sandies dominated defensively in the second and third quarters, giving up only two points in each period. Mckenzie Smith added 16 points for AHS.

Randall gets past El Dorado
After a tough season last year, the Randall Lady Raiders are back in the region quarters for the first time in four years thanks to their youngest and perhaps smallest player.
Freshman Sadie Sanchez stood tall for the Lady Raiders when they most needed her, sparking a big run with a pair of 3-pointers to give them a lead they never relinquished as they rallied past El Paso El Dorado 54-47 at Odessa Permian.
Randall (23-12) will face Lubbock Monterey (29-8) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Littlefield. The last time the Lady Raiders were there was in 2018, when they faced fellow Canyon ISD school Canyon High.
It was a tight game most of the way, as both teams led by as many as seven points and it was tied 26-26 at halftime. El Dorado (21-8) took the lead to start the second half and led 40-38 at the start back-to-back threes to give Randall the lead and the Lady Raiders never trailed again. Ashley Norman scored on a layup to make it 49-41, and El Dorado never got closer than six points after that.
Erin Carbajal led El Dorado with 14 points.

Clarendon beats Bovina in OT
Clarendon survived overtime and a Bovina rally for a 60-54 victory in Canyon to advance to the region quarterfinals.
Finley Cunningham carried Clarendon with a game-high 26 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. The Lady Broncos (21-15) will play Wellington next week in the region quarterfinals.

Swiftettes capture win over Claude
Nazareth continues their chase for state as they knocked off Claude 56-42 in an Area round matchup Friday night at the Tascosa Activity Center.
The Swiftettes started the game off hot with four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 16-8 lead.
Presley Wheeler gave Nazareth a boost in the second quarter scoring 11 first half points. Wheeler went on to lead all scorers with 19 in the game.
It was Baylee Gabel leading the way for the Lady Mustangs (16-12). Gabel led Claude with eight points at the break, finishing with 17.
In the second half, sophomore Harley Gerber made a huge impact for the Swifts in the picking up all nine of her points in the final two quarters.
The Swiftettes (22-11) advance into the Regional Quarterfinals where they will face Springlake-Earth at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. The Lady Wolverines defeated Silverton 61-44 in their Area game on Friday night.

Valley holds off Happy
Valley used a huge second quarter that played a difference in a hard fought 40-35 victory against rival Happy in an Area round clash in Lockney on Friday.
After falling behind 11-8 after the first quarter, the Lady Patriots defense put the pressure on Happy, allowing their offense to take over. Valley held Happy to only five points in the second quarter, while scoring 15 in that time span to take a 23-16 halftime lead.
Reese Cruse played superb for the Lady Patriots tallying a game-high 18 points in the contest. Halee Johnson finished with 15 for the Cowgirls.
Valley (22-4) moves on to play Miami in the Regional Quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined next week.

Miami fends off Hartley
The Miami Lady Warriors held off a valiant effort from Hartley to nab a 57-51 Area round win on Friday night at West Texas High School in Stinnett.
Miami jumped out early in this one on the back of a hot start from the field putting themselves up 25-17 by halftime.
Hartley did its best to battle back by cutting the halftime advantage to 39-38, however that is as close as they’d come.
Abby Skidmore was the difference maker as the Lady Warriors guard popped off for 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half.
Miami (20-7) advances to the Regional Quarterfinals where they will take on the Valley Lady Patriots at a time and place to be determined.

San Jacinto routs Rockwall Heritage
San Jacinto Christian opened the postseason in dominant fashion, holding Rockwall Heritage Christian scoreless in the first quarter to set the to loo 55-11 victory.
The Lady Patriots (21-8) jumped out to a 24-0 first quarter lead and coasted the rest of the way. San Jac’s Audrey Lane was the only player in the game in double figures with 10 points.
