Randall takes down Plainview; Lady Sandies Marusak closing in on history, Canyon wins

Canyon Lady Eagles hold off West Plains; Amarillo High Lady Sandies stays unbeaten in District 3-5A

The first half of District 3-5A came to a close on Saturday afternoon.

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies are keeping a firm grip on first place at the halfway point by staying undefeated in district thanks to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-13, sweep of Caprock at home.

Currie Marusak is reaching a landmark milestone in the process. Marusak, a Texas Tech commit, knocked down nine kills against the Lady Longhorns during the win. The Lady Sandies hard-hitting senior now has 557 kills this season, and is just two off Emerson Solano’s single season record of 559 set in 2016. Marusak can break the record against Palo Duro on Tuesday night.

AHS improves to 27-11 overall, and 5-0 in district play.

Randall stayed a game back of Amarillo High after getting a, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, sweep at Plainview on Friday night.

The Lady Raiders are 4-1 in District 3-5A at the halfway point, while Plainview drops to 25-12, 2-3.

Jordyn Gove and Paris Patterson combined for 17 kills against the Lady Bulldogs, Gove also added 15 digs, and three aces.

Tascosa has won three straight matches defeating Palo Duro 25-16, 25-14, 25-18.

The Lady Rebels sit third in the district race at 3-2, and 22-14 overall.

Meredith Sanning dished out 43 assists in the victory, Alex Ayres had 10 kills.

Saturday’s highlights

Canyon scored a big road win at Pampa on Saturday getting a four-set, 17-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22, victory.

The Lady Eagles take over third place in District 4-4A at 3-2, improving to 14-20 overall. Pampa falls to 21-13, 2-3.

Senior Ava Haugen led Canyon with 10 kills, followed by freshman Sydney Winfrey tallied eight, and Brooklyn Kinsey added three blocks.

The No. 8-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons opened District 1-3A play by handling River Road 25-11, 25-5, 25-14.

Abby Howell powered down 10 kills, Emma Troxell and Madyson Eberly each added six.

Troxell also had four aces in the win.

Bushland, has won 72 straight district wins dating back to 2011, as the Lady Falcons are now 26-4, 1-0.

West Texas High and Miami stayed unbeaten in its respective districts. The Lady Comanches are all alone atop the District 4-2A standings thanks to a sweep of 25-11, 25-13, 25-12, sweep of Memphis. WT High is 4-0 in district and 13-13 overall.

Miami knocked off Darrouzett on Saturday to stay perfect in District 4-1A. The Lady Warriors won handily 25-6, 25-6, 25-10, to move to 23-7, 4-0.
